“He does deserve it! But where is your humanity? This is sick!” Tears are prickling from the corners of my eyes, and I’m way in over my head.
“Humanity?” he says with a scoff as he grabs my chin and forces me to look at the carnage.
“Humanity has never been on the brink of collapsing, it already has. Moral compasses are rarer than any fairy tale produced by humankind. The sorrow we have inflicted on this planet is so severe that even the flames of Hell won’t be enough to incinerate and absolve us all of our sins,” he says in a chilling tone. I’m shaking, but he does nothing about that. M is steady, collected, and clearly in his element. His words cut through my entire being. He is right. What is humanity anymore?
But still…
“I understand he has done horrible things, but nobody deserves this level of cruelty!” M releases my chin and goes to stand before me behind the desk. He looks at the cleaver and licks his teeth as he delivers his next line.
“He wanted to assault you, Lana.”
“He did.”
“Is that fair?”
“No, but—”
“There is nobut, only retribution and vengeance. I’m going to tell you something, Lana,” he says to me as he grabs the cleaver and puts the rag in his pocket. My breathing is all over the place, and my mind is reeling with the possibilities of what he is going to do.
This is it. I’m going to see thehonestM.
“I do not care about humanity or what can absolve me from my sins, but I do care about you.” His words are cold yet warm at the same time. I rattle the chains a bit more, but keep my eyes focused on him.
“And now you will see just how much I will protect you.”
“Wait!” I scream at him. He turns around with the big fucking cleaver in his hand. He nods at me.
“What about your own soul?” I need to get to the bottom of the depths of his depravity. He gives me a genuine smile, not cold or calculated.
“If it means burning in Hell for all of eternity just to make this world safe for you, I would greet the devil with a handshake.” He is honest, completely and utterly honest. And I’m falling for it, for him. He stands before Belmin, and he turns his head toward me.
“Baby, just watch because this is how far I’m willing to go for you. And even beyond this.” Before I can react, M takes the cleaver and does something that makes my mouth fall open. He carves something into the flesh of my boss, right above his heart.
“Aahhhhh! Make this stop!” Belmin is holding on to dear life, but his cries are as hard as ever. The little energy he has left, he wastes it on talking. Not that he can do anything to escape. His pain is palpable, and I can feel it all the way from over here.
“I carvedMinto you, so I’ll always be a part of your heart.”
Fuck, this ishim.
This is M.
Therealhim.
“Any last words?” M asks my soon-to-be ex-boss.
“The diner… the diner… the diner…” Belmin’s life is eluding him, andtheseare his last words? What about the diner?
“What a pathetic excuse for a human being. I’ll see you in Hell.” Belmin’s eyes fly open as M puts the tip of the cleaver near Belmin’s pubic bone. In one swift move, he plunges the cleaver into him and slices him from there to his neck. Blood is seeping from Belmin’s body in spurts, and it’s coating the floor, the walls, and M himself. He doesn’t move as he is holding the cleaver and watching Belmin’s body squirm, desperately holding on to life.
But, he loses.
The fight is over, and the devil has claimed one more soul.
By M.
“M was here.” My body freezes up, and my eyes nearly pop out of my skull. The air is constricting around my throat, and I finally got what I needed.
After a couple more minutes, Belmin has bled out, and his body is hanging limp. It’s like the light suddenly returns to the room, and M breathes out in relief and satisfaction. His bodyis drenched in Belmin’s blood, but I can still see the gorgeous features of his face.
