I turn around to grab a bottle of water from the fridge behind my desk.

“Here you go.” She extends her hand and it’s trembling. I sit down beside her offering her a soft smile, maybe if I chat with her I can distract her a little.

“Hey, Trouble,” Carter calls me from his station. “Could you hand me another paper towel roll? They’re at the bottom of that cabinet.” He points at the supply closet next to where Gavin is sitting.

“Be right back,” I say quietly to Lily and head for the closet. “Sure thing, Car-Car.”

This is it, this must be Carter’s big plan, to put me in compromising positions in front of Gavin. Maybe I should be offended, but really I’m totally here for this. It’s showtime. Towels are at the bottom so I could get on my knees to grab them. Kneeling may be too obvious, so I lean forward straining my ass in my tight-as-fuck jeans and add a wiggle for good measure. There’s no way he’s not eating this up.

“Oh, it’s okay, Trouble. I found a spare roll right here,” Carter calls over as I stand back up and dramatically roll my eyes at him. Glancing at Gavin my smile turns to a pout. He’s concentrating on his sketch. This man is so infuriating, he doesn’t notice me at all. Not when I flirt outrageously, not when I smile sweetly and hand him coffee and donuts and clearly not even when I bend over to get something from the bottom of the fucking supply closet. Damn it, I’m wearing these jeans especially to show off my ass. Why won’t he look at me? I turn around and go back to the waiting area trying to fight the disheartened whine I feel building in my chest.

When I stand next to Lily she gestures for me to come closer.

“That guy was totally checking you out,” she whispers.

“Which one?” I fight with myself not to spin around. Is she talking about Carter? If so, I’m not playing this game anymore.

“That big one, with the beard.”

My eyes widen and so does my smile. She laughs soundlessly.

“Thank God,” I sigh. “Here I was thinking my magic pants weren’t working today.”

“You like him?” she asks, a little surprised and I nod. “But… he’s so… much older than you.”

“He’s not that old, plus… that’s the way I like my men – experienced.” I wink at her and she blushes.

Nyx appears a moment later and Lily seems a bit more relaxed now. I offer her an encouraging double thumbs-up and wish her good luck.

At the end of the day, Ryan comes up to the desk and leans over on his elbows, face in his hands watching me tug on my jacket.

“You know,” he starts slowly. “You did great today. Everything ran so smoothly.” I preen at his words. “And don’t get me started on the attention and care you pay to every client. I was impressed, hell I think even Gavin was impressed. He was watching your every move. Keep that up, little bro.” He grins and knocks on the desk before heading back to his station to pack up for the day.

And just like that I make a promise to myself to be the best damn employee Gavin has ever had, maybe he has a competency kink and I’ll win him over that way.

When I get back home that evening, Jordan sits at the dinner table, eating what smells like spicy ramen.

“Sooo, how was it?” he asks with his mouth full of noodles.

“I got the job and I completed my first day without any incidents or giant domino games. So I’d say it was a success.”

“Awww, that’s so good to hear. And how was your bear? Was he happy to see you?” Jordan asks curiously.

“Quite the opposite actually. He called me Peter.” Jordan gasps loudly.

“He real-named you? Sunshine, maybe he’s really not that into you?”

“I wouldn’t be hung up on him if I didn’t believe I stood a chance. I can feel it, Jordy. I just need to find a way for him to realize I’m perfect for him.”

GAVIN

By lunchtime, I’m not convinced I’ve made the right decision hiring Pete. Don’t get me wrong, he’s great with clients and the rest of the guys love him. He’s even taken all of our lunch orders and gone over to the deli to ensure we get food in us while we work through our backlog of appointment requests and draw up sketches for the clients booked this week.

It’s been great having him here to grab the phone when it rings instead of one of us having to get up and take the call. Hell, he even took some time to refill our personal supplies while we worked. So far, there hasn’t been any destruction like Game Night. I totally expected to have filled in a few incident reports by now, but no… It’s been great. The problem is I can’t keep my fucking eyes off him.

His jeans are painted on. He lost his neon green shirt an hour ago and now there is all this exposed skin for my eyes to feast on. I’m certain I can make out dimples on his ass, the kind that would make a perfect home for my thumbs while he’s bent over in front of me, my cock buried deep in that juicy ass. His body is so lithe and his skin so pale and creamy.

I’m losing my damn mind and my dick is working on boring a hole through my jeans. Thank fuck nobody can see the current state of my crotch as I work at my station rather than in my office today. Usually between clients I hide away under the mound of paperwork but with things caught up and Pete seeming to have control of things out here I don’t need to rush off. It’s a nice change, and a great view.
