“I don’t want to leave you.”
“It’s safe now.”
“Is it? How did they access the catacombs?”
“Let the adults handle that one.”
We got our food and snuggled around the bonfire to eat. Headmaster Mykene appeared floating in front of all of us. Shit, could we fly? She used some kind of spell to amplify her voice and told everyone who was killing students and that they were dead. Most people weren’t shocked about Lola or even Edmund, which was, apparently, his name, but not everyone thought Radames was in on it.
“So, there were several students who were a part of ending this. I’m awarding eight hundred thousand points each to Sage, Liam, Khalid, Lucian, Iman, Adrian, Ari, Mazen, and Alexios. I’d give the same to Morgana, Elliot, and Petros, but they already won their lottery. This means both groups won the lottery for the year and will get access to their trust funds. If you didn’t win, worry not. You’ll have a lottery every year until you graduate to get yours early, but you’ll still get it when you graduate.”
Shit. We won?
“Since we can afford it now, how does everyone feel about flying first class to Egypt to visit my parents over Winter Break now that we can? I figure we can stop in Romania to visit Lucian’s, too.”
Yeah, I’d love that. Khalid and Lucian spoke fondly of their families. I’d love to meet them.
Hopefully, the rest of our time at Ouroboros Academy was less dramatic and fatal and we could just enjoy being college students.
Epilogue
2 years later
It was time. So much planning had gone into this and I was dressed to the nines. It was going to be perfect. I was a little nervous because what if I fucked this up? Nah. I’d had it right. Lucian and Khalid helped me plan this.
Basically, we were going to murder Sage’s Da tonight and frame mine for it. Did you think we were doing something else?
We had to wait until we’d mastered portal and that bitch was a beast to master. Lucian and Sage wanted to take my Da out, too, and that meant a lot to me. But it was Khalid whosuggested framing him for Blue Matthew’s murder and that was just delicious.
My Da kept his blood stocked in his panic room because he couldn’t always go to a hospital and he had a calling card when he killed that he taught me. We just needed to wait for Blue Matthews to get to Ireland on a speaking tour. I’d leave some of his blood and his calling card.
Lucian rented a room at the same hotel he was staying at so he could handle any security cameras. It was fine he didn’t want to get his hands dirty. I could do that on my own. I was pretty sure Khalid just wanted to watch.
When Khalid started stripping, I held up my hand.
“It’s going to be super weird for there to be jackal fur at a crime scene at a hotel.”
“I’m not going to be a jackal long.”
I shrugged. Whatever he had planned I was fine with it.
I opened the portal and stepped through into Blue Matthew’s hotel room. Sage’s mum wasn’t here, and we planned for that, too. I knew what the portals looked like. They were blinding-white lights and people in them looked like outlines.
He fell to his knees and asked if I was an angel.
I closed the portal and flicked Doris open. Khalid stepped from behind me and bared his teeth. I knew what I looked like. I had all my tattoos on display and I’d gotten a lot more piercings in the past few years.
“Nah, mate. We’re here for a reckoning.”
“What is this?” he demanded.
Khalid shifted back. He’d gotten a lot more comfortable with nudity now.
“Demon!” Blue roared.
Yeah, we needed to shut him up. Khalid just shifted to fuck with him, but this was my time to shine. This man killed Sage’sreal father and abused her and her mom. He deserved Doris more than anyone.
So, I flew at him and gave her to him.
