All of a sudden, I was nearly blinded. Alexios was glowing like the sun god he was and it ate through the blackness. He could just stand there glowing for all I cared if it gave everyone an edge.
“You could have gotten your girl back completely unharmed. She was dead the moment you betrayed us. I don’t need a phone to send a messageto my mate.”
Fuck! We’d been sure she was just using Edward and stringing him along, but that was just what shewantedus to think. I thought,She even taught him how to portal so she could use it.Sage wasn’t dead. She was a little badass in Magical Combat and I’dfeelit.
Liam went charging in armed just with that switchblade and was going to get himself killed. I clamped my teeth on the back of his trousers and yanked him back. Lucian was smart enough to realize he couldn’t get to Radames without touching Lola and touching Lola was instant death.
Another portal opened up. If Edmund walked through, then Sage was dead. I held my breath. Maybe the search team found Sage. I’d go feral if I lost her.
Sage strolled through the portal coated in blood. She looked completely murderous, and I’d never seen her looking sexyier in the entire time I’d known her. Everything just stopped and everyone stared.
“Sorry, were you expecting someone else? Maybe you shouldn’t have left your boyfriend alone with me.”
I honestly didn’t think Lola gave a shit about anyone because she treated everyone like garbage. Lola threw back her head and let out a mournful shriek. I guess she loved that arsehole. Shedidn’t even portal. She started running towards Sage like she was going to attack her.
And then Sage changed. I could see the outline of black feathery wings behind her and it was like there was a shadow of a skull over her face. She locked eyes with Lola and Lola stopped dead in her tracks.
Whatever Sage did to her, she turned and tried to attack Radames. Radames shifted back and was trying to keep her from hurting herself and him, but he wasn’t fighting back. He couldn’t even portal away with her because he couldn’t hold on to her for very long.
She’d use her magic on him and we’d watch him disappear and then reappear since the void wasn’t fatal to him.
“Stop! What are you doing?” he demanded.
“You kidnapped the Morrigan, dipshits,” Liam laughed. “When you told your idiot boyfriend to hurt her, you unlocked, Nemain, the Phantom Queen. Since I’m sure you weren’t looking that up at the library, Nemain is the face of the Morrigan that wins battles by inciting a frenzy. Frankly, it’s pretty poetic she turned your mate against you.”
“Make her stop!”
“I don’t think I want to.”
“This is pointless. None of you can kill us. This is just going to piss us both off when she’s herself again and we’ll come for you.”
Sage’s face changed again and now Radames was infected. The two Forsaken Ones were now trying to kill each other. Radames was brutal with his fists, but Lola got in several blows, too.
Well, that was a solution.Wecouldn’t kill them, but maybe they could kill each other. Was that the answer this whole time? Radames half shifted and sank his fangs into her shoulder. She might be his creation and his mate, but she wasn’t immune to his venom.
Lola froze and immediately fell to the ground. Radames wasn’t all that steady on his feet, but he jumped on top of her and just kept punching until she was dead. We were sure she’d come back and heal, but Radames and Lola didn’t live the same lives as their originals.
I was pretty sure this was the first time either of them had died. Radames snapped out of the frenzy Sage put him in and realized he was on top of his mate covered in her blood. He mightremembershe could come back, but he’d never experienced it and he’d never been the one to hurt her before.
He threw back his head and howled, but Lola gave as good as she got before he bit. Radames couldn’t get up and fight.
“Sing like we planned,” she ordered Liam. “Adrian, you’d better figure your shit out.”
Liam sang his coma song, but he was able to focus it now. His song was just for Radames and Lola. Radames collapsed and Adrian just stood there with his dick in his hand.
“Professor Theron said you could force the shift,” he said.
“She also said it would seriously fuck up your animal. You sure?”
“Sing it. It helped me,” I said.
Liam could have ordered my jackal to release me and force my shift back to human, but he sang instead. Liam’s music healed the forest. I had no doubt it could draw out a reluctant phoenix.
“Make it quick,” Adrian said. “Radames is in the coma, but Lola is actually dead.”
“No, she isn’t,” Lucian said. “It’s super faint, but I can hear her heartbeat.”
“Make it quick, but try to avoid damaging his phoenix or I’ll get revenge,” Iman said.
