“She’s not kidnapped. I borrowed her as an insurance policy to motivate you to actually help me. You’ll get her back unharmed after you keep your promise.”
“That wasn’t the deal, Lola.”
“It is now.”
“I won’t help you unless you give her back.”
“Then you won’t exactly get her back unharmed. You’re underestimating exactly how much I want this.”
We had a day before Winter Solstice when our window was open. We needed Sage for the prophecy and I didn’t want Lola, Radames, or Edmund anywhere near her.
I knew they’d have no problem hurting her if we tried anything. Radames and Lola would be there to get their answers from Liam, but Edward would stay behind to hurt Sage at any hint we were betraying them.
We had magic, our bond, and her familiars. Hopefully, we could find her before then.
Every inch of my body hurt and my blood sugar was dangerously low. I usually had to eat something after Magical Combat because Professor Adamastus worked us really hard and the class was a few hours after lunch. My heart was racing, I was sweating, and I could feel my hands shaking.
I remembered most of what happened after Magical Combat. Edward stole my clothes and electrocuted me. I was swimming in someone’s T-shirt and lying on a hard floor with my hands tied up. It was also freezing cold in here. I managed to get myself in a sitting position and Edgar was sitting across from me with his elbows on his knees. He appeared to have given me his shirt.
“What the fuck is this?” I demanded.
“Lola’s insurance your boyfriend keeps his promise. If he does what she asks, we’ll send you back to him and leave this school. No one intends to hurt you unless you make us. We’ll just stay here until after.”
“I need food, dipshit.”
“I got bottled water, but you’ll only get enough to stay hydrated because I don’t want to manage your bathroom breaks. I got a bucket for that. It won’t kill you to skip a few meals until this is over.”
“It’s public knowledge I have diabetes, you utter moron. We just did a hard workout in the mud, so not only can Inotskip a few meals, but if you don’t get me something to eat within the next twenty minutes, you’re going to have a serious problem on your hands. You ever seen a type one diabetic go through severe hypoglycemia? It’s not pretty and even if you’d mastered healing, you couldn’t use magic to heal me.I.need.food.”
“I can’t really leave you here and no one told me you were diabetic.”
“Itold you. I told everyone that first day. My glucose monitor is visible when I wear certain shirts. Professor Adamastus specifically told the class if they targeted my insulin pump because I started doing well in class, he’d make their life hell. Do you need me to have it tattooed on my forehead because you’re an idiot? You can portal because it’s the only way you got me out of the locker room without getting your ass torn apart by a vampire. Get food.”
I tended to get cranky when my blood sugar got low, but even more so when some dipshit electrocuted me while I was naked and kidnapped me. I couldn’t even think straight to figure out how to either escape or figure out where I was so I could call for help.
Great. Edwin decided to leave and get food, but he broke out a roll of duct tape and taped my mouth shut. He’d also usedduct tape on my hands and feet. I was starting to get tunnel vision, which was never a good sign, but I could feel a sharp rock digging into my leg. I could work with that if I got my blood sugar up.
Edmund appeared with a box of old pizza he had to have had sitting in his dorm and shoved it at me. I bounced a piece of pizza off of his face.
“That’s going to make it worse. I’ve got glucose tabs in my dorm room, but the protection spells won’t let you in because you’re a fuck face who kidnapped me. I need fruit juice, gummy bears, or something like honey.”
“You’re a pain in the ass,” he muttered, disappearing again.
“Maybe you shouldn’t have kidnapped me then, dingus!”
I didn’t expect everyone to know how to deal with hypoglycemia and wouldn’t normally have thrown food at someone who brought me something that would make it worse, but this was a special situation.
The immediate situation was to get my blood sugar stable. After that, I’d deal with escaping my guard dog who could both portal and electrocute me.
My mind was in a dark place. Lola didn’t just have Sage kidnapped for insurance. She had Sage kidnapped whilenakedby someone who had major consent issues in their first life. Headmaster Mykene said no murder on campus, but she was making exceptions for Lola and Radames, so she was just going to have to make an exception for the man who touched what was ours.
Khalid was on board with a little torture and murder and I was pretty sure the Prince of Darkness was willing to get a little bloody. We just needed to find her, so we rounded up all our friends for some search, rescue, and murder.
“Can you feel her?” Ivar asked. “Professor Gefn told me once you bond, you can sometimes feel your mates.”
I’d been feeling weird and kind of dizzy, but I thought it was just because I’d never been pissed like this before. Was that actually Sage? Lucian had his phone out again and the only reason I didn’t shove it up his arse for not paying attention was that he was usually doing something good with it.
“Her phone is still in her locker, but according to her glucose monitor, things are getting dire with her health. Her blood sugar is really low after that workout we had in Magical Combat.”
