“No, this is a good thing,” Liam said. “I’m about to go behind enemy lines. I can communicate with all of you and send an SOS if I need to.”
That part of my plan wasn’t ideal, and I didn’t actually want Liam to do it. I could justfeelthat if he didn’t, we couldn’t pull this off. Liam wanted to be part of anything that would bring them down.
My gut feelings had all been right so far, but this was the first one I just didn’t like.
My girl had a devious side, and I loved it. And I was perfect for this assignment because sometimes, I liked to play with my food. It just seemed rude to stab a bloke without telling them why you were gutting them. Some of them legitimately didn’t think what they were doing was wrong, and I needed to explain that to them with Doris.
And I played the Irish Mafia for the longest. They thought I was the heir and willing, but I was putting things together to take their money and run. They never suspected a thing.
We just had theories based on some library books and what she tried to do to me, but my girl’s gut hadn’t steered us wrong yet. I could either rock up to one of the Forsaken Ones and makea complete knob of myself or she’d spill her secrets while I tried not to gag braiding her hair.
Lola and Radames made it a point to never been seen together in public. Radames hung out with some of the older Egyptian students and Lola sat with that kid with the chronic wedgies because he had no common sense.
I strolled across the dining hall and plopped my arse across from Lola.
“Edward, I’d scram or I’ll join the wedgie brigade.”
He looked to Lola like I hadn’t broken this plonker’s face for funsies so Sage could practice healing and I played with a switchblade in class all the time.
“Don’t look at her, look at me. She’s not your mummy, but I’ll make myself your daddy if you don’t get the fuck out of here.”
Lola gave him a tiny nod like she was giving her permission and Edmund dissipated like a fart while mumbling some nonsense about his name.
“So, I’ll be perfectly blunt with you. We both know you drugged me with bad intentions and I have witnesses. I could easily get you expelled and something tells me you’re really interested in not doing that for a while.”
That entire persona she put on disappeared in an instant because we had an understanding. I mean, I was lying through my teeth and wanted her dead, not expelled, but I could work with the look on her face.
“What do you want to keep your mouth shut?”
“Answers. Mazen had your back, despite how your story kept changing and would have killed for you. I’ve been obsessed with Sage since I laid eyes on her at a hostel in Amsterdam and didn’t even know her name. The dryads have been dying for me to throw an orgy, but even they understand I only see Sage, so you didn’t come after me because you couldn’t help yourself. So,what did you want so badly you had to take it? Maybe if you actuallyaskedme, I could help.”
“So, cards on the table. I know who I was in my previous life. I was an original. I should have been the mother of a new race, but there are no others like me. I want to fix that, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I thought since you were a primordial fertility god, you could get me pregnant, but you’re really annoyingly monogamous and obsessed with that girl.”
I looked at her and yeah, we didn’t just unlock telepathy last night. I could seeexactlywhy she wasn’t getting pregnant. All of her internal organs had been taken over by the Void. The Void was nothing.
Apep had Void powers, but he wasn’t made of it like she was. He was still a God. Lola’s magic made everything cease to exist, and it was in every organ in her body. There wasn’t some poor bloke out there who was either going to be seriously disappointed or absolutely thrilled to find out he was mated to two soul-sucking serial killers.
When Apep changed Hemlock, he made his perfect mate. Her body wasn’t compatible with anyone else and, apparently, OG Apep and Hemlock and then their reincarnations didn’t realize the only way they could make little Void babies was to conceive and gestateinthe void.
I could basically be the Fairy Godmother of a new race by telling her this, but they killed a whole mess of people instead of just asking one of the professors who also happened to be a Fertility God. Professor Gefn probably could have cleared this up with zero homicides on the first day of class when we did birth control spells.
So, yeah, I wasn’t feeling super helpful at the moment and I had a part to play. Still, Ihadto know.
“You could have just asked any other fertility god here without attacking me.”
Because this bitchstillhadn’t apologized for that yet and she didn’t look like she intended to. She just shrugged like it was no big deal.
“They all say they aren’t going to judge you because of your previous lives, but weallknow that’s a lie. You haven’t asked me.”
Because I already knew. And they really didn’t judge you based on your previous lives. The only person who got weird with Mazen was Khalid and now, they were shifter buddies. People were frequently pissed at Elliot, but it wasn’t because of anything Loki did. Elliot earned that on his own.
No one here knew Apep and Hemlock were responsible for what happened in Fairy. Only the Fairy elders knew. Saffron didn’t even know and wouldn’t have if they hadn’t started killing people.
“It doesn’t matter. Tell me what you’ve tried so far that you think you need celestial help.”
“So, I know who my mate is, and he’s also keeping it secret because people would judge him. We’ve tried together and with other people. I can’t get pregnant and he can’t get anyone pregnant.”
“Both sides of the school use spell jars or charms to not get pregnant or not get anyone pregnant. Sage and Morgana are covered, but all us men use magic just in case. That’s probably why.”
