“Oblivion…?”
His arms tightened slightly around me.
“My name,” he murmured quietly against my throat,
“Wye… please.”
The unfamiliar sound of the word please rolled softly off his tongue. I hesitated only a moment before letting go of his hair and instead palming the back of his neck. My fingers brushed lightly across his skin, and I blinked in quiet surprise at how soft it felt beneath my touch.
“Wye,”I said tenderly.
His reaction was immediate as a sharp shiver ran through him and a low growl slipped from his chest once again.
I blinked in confusion before braving to ask,
“Can I take that sound as a good thing?”
A quiet chuckle left him then, warmer this time as he finally lifted his head to look at me. The emotion in his eyes nearly stole my breath all over again.
“Yes, Eliza,” he murmured slowly.
“You can most definitely take that as a good sound.”
I studied him carefully and then asked,
“Are you okay?”
“I am more than okay,” he replied softly, though something darker flickered behind his gaze.
“However… you test my restraint more than ever before.”
Heat rushed instantly to my face at the admission, wanting to believe every single word was true.
“Can I take that as a good thing, too?” That earned me a real laugh this time. The sound was warm and something I could easily become addicted to as he pulled me gently against him again, pressing a lingering kiss to the side of my neck.
“Yes,” he murmured against my skin.
“Most definitely.”His lips brushed lightly along my throat as he spoke again, his voice lowering.
“But I fear that if we do not stop now… I may end up claiming you on my desk instead of in my bed, as I very much intend to do.”
The words sent a shiver racing down my spine.
“Wye…”The quiet uncertainty in my voice made him pause.
“This is happening, Eliza,” he said softly, lifting his head just enough to meet my gaze.
“Make no mistake about that. I will have you, my girl.” His thumb brushed gently along my jaw as if his touch and words combined had the power to burn the claim to my soul.
“The way that I want you.”
Before I could even begin to process the weight of that promise, his mouth returned to my neck. His lips moved slowly against my skin, the faint scrape of his teeth sending a sharp shiver through me as he bit just enough to make my breath hitch.
Not enough to hurt. Just enough to make my head tilt instinctively to the side.
A quiet sound escaped me before I could stop it, and in response, a deep growl answered it, one that vibrated against my throat.
“What a tempting beauty I hold in my arms,”he murmured softly.
