“Thanks, Tech. There’s no telling how long I would have been out here if you hadn’t shown up.” I smiled at him.
He bit his bottom lip. “It's no problem at all.”
He began packing up all his things. I didn’t know why, but the idea of us parting saddened me. I was really enjoying his company. Before I could even think about it, the words were already out of my mouth.
“Would you like to come over?”
Tech’s brows dipped. “What?”
“I mean, as a thank you. I was going to order some pizza, drink a beer, and watch the game.”
“Uhhhh, I don’t know…” he trailed off.
Stung by the rejection, I sighed. “I get it. You probably already have plans.” I looked away in embarrassment. I didn’t know why the hell I said that. “Well, I'd better get going before this storm rol?—”
“Yes,” he interrupted me.
“Huh?”
“Yes, I would like to come over. If the offer is still on the table.” Tech looked so unsure of himself. Like he didn’t know if he was doing the right or wrong thing.
“Of course. You can follow me to my apartment.”
“Okay.” He grabbed my flat tire, placed it in the trunk, and closed it. After gathering all his things, he placed them in his truck and got in. As I buckled my seat belt, I took a deep breath. My stomach was filled with butterflies. I couldn’t believe I had invited him over and that he accepted.
What the hell did I just do?
Chapter Four
TECH
“You cannot be serious, Tech. Lebron James is not the best basketball player of all time!” Will exclaimed.
“Oh, but I am. He isn’t called King James for no reason,” I shot back.
Will scoffed. “Yeah, he’s the king of flopping. Any kind of physical contact has him falling dramatically to the ground.” He grabbed his beer off the coffee table and brought it to his lips. “Ol delicate ass,” he spat before taking a sip.
I threw my head back, roaring with laughter. Will shook his head with a smirk. This was how things had been going since we arrived. At first, there was a little tension, but Will's bubbly personality made me relax. We had spent the past four hours just talking and getting to know one another.
Will turned on the game, but we didn’t pay any attention to it. As soon as we settled, he started asking me questions. Nothing too deep. All the trivial things, like my favorite hobbies, my taste in food, music, and so on. I was shocked at how much we had in common. The more time that went by, the less I wanted to leave.
So even after the game was over, I sat back and got comfortable. Will was so animated when he talked about anything that interested him. He had my undivided attention.
Not that he knew, but he’dbeenhaving my undivided attention since the first day I met him. I might have stayed away from him physically, but that was it. I couldn’t tell you how much time I spent on his social media. Some of his pictures I had saved on my phone. He had the most breathtaking smile. It was so incapacitating. And the dimples. God, his dimples. They were like tiny whirlpools drawing you in.
If I told anyone how much time I spent looking at his pictures, they would say I was obsessed. In a way… I was. I wanted to know everything there was to know about him. He unintentionally unlocked something inside of me that I had buried a long time ago. That had me intrigued to find out why. Will wasn’t the first gay man I had been around, but still, the urges never returned. There was something abouthim.
My running into him, stranded on the side of the road, was a sign. I had left the clubhouse to go for a drive and clear my head. I just wanted to try not to think about him. I hadn’t even made it ten minutes from the club before I saw him. When he asked me to come over, I wanted to decline at first, but then I figured this would be the perfect time to have some one-on-one time with him. Uninterrupted.
Coming here was one of the smartest decisions I had ever made. I was slowly coming to realize that I wasn’t just attracted to Will, but I was drawn to him. I couldn’t get enough.
“Let me guess, you’re going to say Curry is the best of all time?” I tilted my head with a raised brow.
Will giggled, which made me smile unintentionally. “As talented as the handsome yellow devil is, I’m going to have to say no. It’s MJ, of course.”
I rolled my eyes before taking a sip of my beer. “Okay, MJ definitely should be mentioned when you’re talking about the greatest of all time, but I don’t think he would have been able to handle LeBron. Respectfully.”
Will's eyes bucked, and he started looking around the room. I mean, under the table, the couch, and behind the cushions.
