Desiree jumped back at Tiny’s statement. Someone tried to kill her with a package bomb.

“How bad was the porch pirate hurt?” Desiree asked, looking at the three men standing in front of her.

“They were killed. Face and hands were completely blown off. Upper body was mangled good. Incendiary device was used in the package to go off three seconds after it was picked up.”

Desiree couldn’t help the panic that took over her body at the news she was just given. Who the hell would send her a package to explode?

“How did you figure out it wasn’t me?” Desiree asked, looking between the three men.

“The outfit. No way would my sister wear skinny jeans like the ones that were melted to the body and the boots were hideous. Plus there were no tattoos on the arms that I could see.”

“You couldn’t have lead with that? Seriously had to talk about skinny jeans and ugly boots?” Desiree glared at Teddy as she shook her head. “Look, I’m sorry you guys had to drive all the way out here to find me. I am okay. I’m heading back to the house now. I’ll talk to the police and we can go from there. If you guys want to, you can follow behind me or I’ll just meet you at the house.”

“We’ll follow behind you. If someone is after you, once word gets out that the package didn’t get you, I want your six covered at all times. Even now.” Jose “Priest” Lewis told his sister, leaving no room for questions.

“Bossy much, old man?” Desiree fired back at her brother, sticking her tongue out at him.

“I’ll show you old man.”

Desiree couldn’t help but laugh as her brother pulled her in for a headlock. She was able to push him off after pinching his sides and he grunted.

Times like this, she was glad she had come back home to Fayetteville to be near her family instead of moving away to a remote location where no one could find her. Her brothers always had her back even in the dark times.

Jose was prior Delta Force and was damn proud of all that she had accomplished. While Desiree never went Delta, she’d accomplished more than most women in the military.

Teddy was now Delta and she was damn proud of what he’d accomplished. Both of her brothers took after their dad and had gone into Delta Force.

Teddy always joked that he couldn’t let his big sister do better than him. It would destroy his man card.

She and Jose always joked that Teddy was still earning his man card. They were as close as siblings could be, which is rare in families.

“We’ll follow behind you. Don’t try any shenanigans to lose us. We’ll just get pissed and then put you on house arrest until this shit is dealt with. Brat.” Jose warned her as he ruffled her hair.

“Me? Shenanigans? Please! I would never.” Desiree feigned shock at her brother’s words.

She couldn’t help but shake her head and laugh when both Jose and Teddy kept staring at her, unimpressed by her joke. She blew them both a kiss and put her motorcycle helmet on.

“Just try to keep up. I don’t have time for your driving Ms. Daisy shit.”

Chapter

Four

Max put the weight down when he finished his last set. He looked up as Teddy put down his own weight.

They were workout partners when they went to the gym. Teddy was the only one who was close to keeping up with him when he did his rigorous workouts.

Another reason he was called the beast. When he wasn’t on the battlefield kicking ass, he spent his time in the gym making sure he was in the best shape he could be in.

Teddy was always right there with him. He was the one that Max could depend on the most when it came to discipline and staying focused on the mission.

They were finishing their last set of bicep curls, Teddy’s phone went off. When he started cursing, Max set his weights back down and waited for Teddy to let him know what the problem was.

“Hey, I have to run. Olly is missing. Someone put a package on her door that exploded when a porch pirate picked it up. Jose already confirmed it wasn’t her, but no one can reach her on the phone.”

“Let’s go get a shower and get dressed. I’ll go with you to help look for her.”

Max watched Teddy pull up Desiree’s number and tried to call her. He held his breath, hoping that she answered and put them all out of their misery.
