She had known the women had all rode their motorcycles since she’d been the last one to arrive with Nightshade riding beside her, that meant the men had all ridden their vehicles to the clubhouse.

“All four of us did.” Teddy admitted looking around the room as he walked to where Desiree stood.

“I rode my motorcycle. Trucks at Desiree’s.” Max said as he walked toward her to make sure she was covered in case more shit hit the fan.

“Tiny and I rode together in my truck.” Jose confirmed as he moved toward the door after he double-checked to see that Andrea was okay.

Desiree looked out at the vehicle on fire, trying to distinguish who’s truck it was but couldn’t due to the darkness. She pulled out her Glock 19 and took the safety off.

When Andrea, Jose, Tiny, Max, and Nightshade did the same behind her, she slowly opened the door and ducked as she tactically moved toward the vehicle. She counted her footsteps, trying to stay focused on the task at hand and prayed no bullets started flying since they would be proverbially in the dark.

She squatted by the first vehicle she came to. She felt Max, Andrea and Jose come up behind her making very little sound.

“This is my truck.” Jose confirmed for Desiree and the others.

“So, they blew up Teddy’s truck? Why?” Andrea looked around, having their back as they faced the engulfed vehicle.

“Wait, Max and Teddy’s vehicles look almost a like. Just different makes and models. Max had a Dodge and Teddy has a Chevy.” Desiree realized as she looked over at Max who nodded.

“Same color, but different years. I bought mine about a month before Teddy bought his. Neither of us had realized how alike our trucks were until someone pointed it out. I always looked for the logo on my truck. Same as Teddy. That’s really the only difference.”

“You think they were targeting Max this time?” Jose asked as he observed his surroundings, his Delta Force days kicking in.

“Why would they? Unless they know we’re now and item and that pisses them off. I don’t even know who the fuck we’re dealing with. None of this is making any fucking sense to me.” Desiree sighed heavily as she leaned her forehead against Jose’s truck.

“Maybe we need to look into getting an upgrade in our security system. We’ve never had an issue with someone coming to the club before. We knew it was only a matter of time withwhat we do on the side.” Andrea suggested as she shifted her crouch.

“Maybe one for the garage, too. Damn it, this is really starting to piss me off not knowing who the fuck is targeting me.” Desiree growled as she stood up to walk away, heading back to the clubhouse.

She didn’t understand what the motive was just blowing up the truck and then nothing else. Not a single shot was fired when they all went outside.

A few seconds later she heard the sirens of the fire truck as she plopped down on the couch and leaned her head back and closed her eyes. This whole bullshit was starting to get to her now.

“Hey, let’s get away for the weekend. Andrea says that she will loop you in on the extraction plans. Jose, Tiny, Teddy and I are all going to be helping you guys on this one. The other three are going to help with the idea. Jose and Tiny need to do some digging for the group so they say it will take a couple of days. Let’s get away from this place. We can go up to OBX and just vegetate. Just the two of us.” Max suggested to her, pulling her into his arms.

“Is it a good idea to leave the house unattended that long with everything going on?” Desiree asked, hope in her eyes at the idea of getting away to the beach for a few days.

“Jose and Andrea are going to hang out there to make sure no one messes with the house while we are gone. It will just be for the next two nights. We’ll leave in the morning. It’ll give you time to truly unwind. We’ll even take the motorcycles.” Max winked at her as he leaned in to kiss her.

Desiree leaned her head back to look into Max’s eyes. She could see he was worried about her with everything going on.

He knew her soft spot for the beach and how it was her safe space. Her heart melted a little more where this man was concerned.

“Yeah. Let’s go to the beach. Get me away from here for a couple of days. I’ll let them put the plan together this time. Nightshade and Andrea know what they are doing anyway when it comes to that.” Desiree agreed as she leaned her head back onto Max’s chest.

Desiree just wanted peace from the hell that was going on. She knew Iris was doing everything she could to have the names she gave to her looked into. Unfortunately, it took time for them to get everything back.

It looked like time wouldn’t be on their side with the way things were escalating with the attempts. Whoever it was now had Max in their sight since they knew they were now in a relationship.

There hadn’t been any more attempts on her since the stone fencing went up all around her property and the brand-new state-of-the-art security system that Max insisted she get was put in. Guess now it was going to be needed on the club house and the garage as well just to be safe.

Chapter

Twenty-Eight

Max leaned into the turn as they rode from the house up to OBX. They were an hour into their three-and-a-half-hour ride.

Desiree rode beside him on her motorcycle looking hot as hell in her leathers and helmet. He couldn’t wait until they got to the beach house he rented so that he could peel everything off of her and have his way with her.
