His first stop was by the bank and going into the safe he’d had for several years. Once he was done there, he ran by his apartment to grab a few more clothes and things he needed.
Lucky for him, his lease was up in the next couple of months. Desiree had already talked with him about moving in with her once his lease was up.
He had to admit the only reason he was hesitating was the fact that he would be leaving Teddy trying to find a place to live.
Walking into his apartment, he saw Wick and Rat there with Teddy in the living room. All three men were having a beer and playing a video game on the big screen tv that was mounted to the wall.
“Hey! Thought you were meeting up with Desiree?” Teddy looked up at him as he walked into the living room.
“I am. She’s still at the garage helping Nightshade with her custom. Seems the client is being a jerk about the timeline even though they had told him when it would be ready.”
“Do we need to make a visit?” Gregory “Wick” Chambers asked as he looked over at him from his seat.
“I’ll let you know. I’m grabbing a few things and then headed to the garage. She and Nightshade are leaving from there for their meeting. You and Jose still on for meeting me later on tonight?”
Max watched as the three men laughed and cursed at the video game before they put their controllers down. Even though they were men, they were still boys when it came to their downtime and their video games.
“Yeah. Jose and Tiny are meeting me at the club when they get off work. You sure everything is okay?” Teddy shifted in his seat to be able to fully face Max.
“Yep. Just wanted to talk to you both together at the same time.” Max smirked over at the man.
Max winked at the three men as he turned to walk into his room and grabbed a few more items of clothing, toiletries, and personal items to take with him to Desiree’s. He pulled out a few folders from his bedroom safe and two personal weapons that were also hidden in the safe.
When he walked back into the living room, the three men were back to playing their video games, laughing and cursing at each other again. Things that he used to do with Teddy and a few of the men on his team.
“Hey. Um, your sister asked me about moving in with her once the lease is up. Would you be good with that? It would mean you’d need to find another roommate if you don’t want to keep the place to yourself.”
“I think Ike was looking to find a roommate and move out of his current place.” Wick told them both. “The landlord he’s got is selling the building to a new owner who is wanting to turn the place into an Air BnB type deal. If I’m not mistaken his lease is up around the same time as yours.”
“Oh shit, that’s right. He was mentioning something about that when we last visited him before we shipped out. I’ll have to reach out to him. I know that would ease his mind some, having someone around. I’ll be so damn glad when his ass is back on the team. It’s not the same without him.” Teddy snapped his fingers.
“Yeah. Then we can get rid of that Daniels fucker. I wanted to knock the shit out of him a few times. They need to hurry up and get his spot opened on that other team, man.” Daniel “Rat” Van Buren grumbled from his seat.
Max looked over at Rat in surprise at his statement about Daniels. He’d thought the team got along with the guy since they talked to him now and then.
“Wait, I thought you all got along with him? What the hell am I missing here?” Max asked as he looked between the three men.
“We kept the peace since we had to work with him. Doesn’t mean we like the jackass. He degrades women like a fucking sport.” Wick huffed as he shook his head at his own statement.
“Yeah. Always talking about how women shouldn’t be allowed in the military and how women are only good enough to be in his bed and his kitchen. We walked in on him giving Jolie, the chick on Pepperman’s team hell. Jolie wound up cold cocking the fucker and told him to make his own damn sandwich since he wasn’t worthy enough to get between her thighs.” Rat laughed at the memory.
Max looked at the two men who served under him. He never knew about any of this.
That actually troubled him now that he really thought about it. Has he said anything about Desiree in all his comments?
“Has he ever mentioned Lewis’s sister?” Max asked looking at them, his eyes going cold at the thought.
“He wouldn’t dare if he knows what’s good for him.” Teddy seethed as he cracked his knuckles.
“No. But he has mentioned how he and his friend, some fucker named Mutt, used to stalk some girls to get them to give them what they want. Bragged about that shit a while back. We stopped hanging out with him after that night. Pretty much only deal with him when it’s related to work.” Wick shrugged as he looked over at Rat for confirmation.
Max growled low in his throat at that statement as he looked over toward Teddy with a quirked eyebrow. He knew Teddy was now remembering something that Desiree had told them just before they were shipped out for their op.
“Sis said her team leader was going to report Daniels and Mutt for sexually assaulting a chick at a bar when he overheard them bragging about it.”
“Yeah. I think it’s time we do some digging.” Max decided as he turned to head out. “I’ll see you and Jose at the club.”
