He leaned back in his seat and laced his fingers together over his stomach, relaxing. This interrogation was going to be interesting.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Maxwell Blackwell.” The woman’s eyes roved over Max’s body.
“Tamra Caldwell. Still holding a grudge because I wouldn’t give you the time of day back in high school or when you tried to get me to fuck you at the bar?”
“Please, don’t flatter yourself, Blackwell. You may have been the ‘it’ thing in high school. But you’re a nobody now.” Detective Tamra Caldwell sneered at Max.
“If I remember correctly, you blamed me for the fact that the football team, the basketball team, nor the guys that frequent the bars that are supposedly Special Forces not giving you the time of day, or should I say your life. Who did daddy have to pay off to get you that shiny badge you’re carrying?”
“Your daddy pay for that uniform you’re claiming to wear?” Tamra shot back, glaring at Max.
“My brother has busted his ass for every rank he’s been given. He’s shed his blood, sweat, and tears for this country. What’s your issue with my brother, Caldwell?” Tiny angrily stepped forward to defend his baby brother.
“Brother? Since when, Moser?
“Since he was born after my mother married his daddy. My stepfather has never paid for any of us to get into anything that we haven’t earned by hard work and busting our ass. Your accusations are out of bounds, Caldwell. Max, why does this bitch have a problem with you?” Tiny looked over at his brother.
“Because I wouldn’t give her the time of day. Even when I was drunk off my ass when Desiree started dating Bradley. So, now she thinks that I’m causing these issues with Desiree. What’s funny is I have solid alibis for each and every time something has gone down.”
“Do you now? Please give me that information.” Tamra rolled her eyes before glaring at Max some more.
“Let’s see…the first attempt I was at the gym with Teddy here, working out. Teddy, in case you didn’t do your homework, is Desiree’s younger brother. The second attempt, I was thousands of miles away in the middle of the jungle on a classified operation. Oh, and Teddy here was with me the whole time. Third time, I was in a classified meeting with my XO and military intelligence. Oh, yeah, that time Teddy was with me too.”
“Does Desiree know you’re a playboy with a body count? Her brothers know that when you get bored with her, you’ll just walk away. Oh wait, does she know you can’t get it up?”
“What the fuck?” Jose, Teddy and Tiny all said at the same time.
Max just chuckled as he shook his head. If this bitch only knew.
“Detective Caldwell, please enlighten me on his so-called body count. Considering both of my brothers and Tiny know him very well and I’ve known him for quite some time. As for his dick not working when he’s around you, that sounds like a you problem because when he’s with me, trust me, it works very damn good.”
Chapter
Thirteen
Desiree walked into Max’s office hearing a woman disrespecting Max and accusing him of having issues with getting his dick up. She’d heard enough of this bitch’s issues.
“Detective Caldwell, please enlighten me on his so-called body count. Considering both of my brothers and Tiny know him very well and I’ve known him for quite some time. As for his dick not working when he’s around you, that sounds like a you problem because when he’s with me, trust me, it works very damn good.”
Desiree walked over to Max and leaned down to kiss him passionately. She couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled out of her when she heard both of her brothers gagging in the background.
“You really don’t believe he could be behind the attacks against you? Stupid woman.” Tamra huffed as she glared at Desiree.
“No. I don’t. Max wasn’t anywhere near either one, as I’m sure he’s already told you about his whereabouts for each one. My brothers, his brother, and Uncle Sam can verify. Well, can verify that he wasn’t stateside for one of them and was in a classified meeting since you don’t have a high enough clearanceto know anything.” Desiree smirked at the woman as she sat on the arm of Max’s chair.
Desiree stared the woman down as she fidgeted, moving side to side. She was trying to figure out this woman’s angle and why she wanted to pin the attacks on Max.
She’d reach out to Nightshade when she left here to have her to look into this detective. Something didn’t sit right with her where this woman was concerned.
Even if it was the fact the woman didn’t like rejection. She hoped for this bitch’s sake that’s all it was.
“I’ll verify his whereabouts. I’d be careful if I were you. Max doesn’t do commitment.” Tamra smiled sweetly at Desiree.
“Oh honey, he does commitment. Just not with you. I think that’s your whole problem. You’ve been chasing him since you were a love-struck teenager and he wouldn’t bite the worm you dangled. The fact he’s chosen me to be the one he settles down with just irks the hell out of you. Maybe if you actually did your job instead of focusing on the one you have a vendetta against, you might actually figure out who is trying to take me out. Especially since that list is kind of long.” Desiree winked at the woman as she draped an arm around Max’s shoulder.
“Is there a reason you’re here, Ms. Lewis? I thought this was a military base. You’re not military.”
“Neither are you. See, like my big brother and Tiny over there, I’m former military. I still have some deep ties to the Army. I was actually here to have lunch with Max, but you deemed you were more important with your false allegations. Might want to actually do some homework before you wind up with more egg on your face.”
