Shadow pulls me against him, not caring that anyone could step back out of the trailer or walk up on us at any given second. As he lowers his head, his lips brushing ever so softly across mine.
My eyes flutter closed, and I savor the touch of his kiss.
“Missed you, little mouse,” he murmurs, kissing me once more.
“You saw me last night and texted me this morning.” I try my best to keep my excitement tamped down, but I’m not so sure he doesn’t miss it in the way I touch him or the sound of my voice. I’m pretty obvious even if I’m not trying to be.
“Baby, seems even when I don’t see you for hours, you got me wanting you.”
“Well, I might have missed you as well,” I whisper.
“Might have?” Shadow chuckles and tugs me tighter to him.
“Okay, so it was more than might have.” I smile at him. “I did miss you.” I lower my gaze and focus on his chest. “I just don’t want to seem like I’m clingy and want all of your attention.”
“Cling all you want, Della,” Shadow says, one hand coming up to grip my chin, tilting my head back to meet his gaze. “I want you with me as much as possible, and if that’s clingy, I don’t give a fuck. I want everything I can get from you.”
“Well, in that case, consider me a second layer of skin,” I tell him jokingly.
I watch as Shadow throws his head back and bursts out laughing. His bigger body shakes, making me giggle.
“Fuck, little mouse.” He chuckles and lowers his head to claim my lips. This time, including tongue and all. Only it was still far too quick for my liking. “Let’s get this shit out of the way so we can get on with the rest of the day.”
“Okay,” I whisper breathily, still reeling from his devouring but short kiss.
Shadow takes my hand and guides me into the trailer. It’s just as he said, not much of anything, but on the table next to where my brother is sitting is a cup of coffee with a stopper in the lid.
“That’s for you, Della,” Shadow murmurs, holding my seat out for me as he keeps his voice soft and at my ear. “The only one who’s touched it was me, and that’s when I went to get it from the place in town. Only ones who have been in here are those in this room.”
My heart stills for a moment, and I don’t know what to say. Instead of using words, I tilt my head enough to meet his gaze once again and nod.
He grins and waits for me to take a seat before moving around the table to take his seat next to who I can safely assume is Lucifer.
“Della,” Lucifer greets, watching me closely, “nice to finally meet you.”
“You as well,” I utter nervously, and glance at each of the other two men in the room. I shouldn’t be anxious, yet I am. My stomach is doing somersaults. I didn’t get to tell Maddox about the old business plan I’d let Shadow take with him.
“Let’s get straight to the chase, shall we?” Lucifer announces and looks to my brother.
“I’m all for that,” Maddox says, running his hands along his thighs, something I’d seen him do a lot when we were kids and he was nervous.
“The club met this morning before your arrival to discuss a plan Shadow brought to my attention yesterday.”
“Plan? What plan?” Maddox asks.
Oh no. I’d forgotten to talk to him about the dude ranch as I wanted to before Shadow took the plans with him.
“You didn’t tell him?” Lucifer asks, glancing at Shadow as he shrugs.
“Um,” I murmur nervously and look to Maddox. “I’m sorry, I’d wanted to talk to you about it first, but Shadow saw it and?—”
“I thought it was a damn good idea and wanted to show it to Lucifer before this meeting,” Shadow states, interrupting me.
“How noble of you,” Maddox growls, obviously pissed he’s being blindsided. “Does anyone want to fucking tell me?”
I really should have talked to him first.
Lucifer slides the folder over toward my brother, along with some other documents.
