Secrets…
Secrets…
“I love your freckles.” She paused and silenced my voices from seething, then my gaze broke to meet hers again. “You have them in your eyes too. They’re amazing. Same freckles in both eyes, but they don’t match in color.” Something was pulling me to her. There was a strong need to hug her, to feel her head rest on my shoulder. What in the world is this? What kind of a witch are you, Magdalena Michaelson? Your spell is changing my world.
The willing victim.
Kiss her…
“Keenan’s only fall in love once,” Mum’s voice ran through my mind.
“Can I count them?” she asked, and I knew she meant the freckles on my face.
“Yes.”
“One… two… three… Seven on this side.” She pointed to each, counting while I studied her high cheeks, and I would have given my life for her to caress my face. I had to resist moving forward to feel her finger on my freckles which she seemed to like.
It was a new feeling, having someone like anything about me. I didn’t know how to handle it.
My beautiful angel…I thought while the voices rambled.
She likes our freckles.
I want to marry her. I want to kiss and hug her.
Please love me.
“Twelve on that side. And you have three lined up in a row like the Three Kings constellation.” With a smile on her lips, her eyes met mine. “Why don’t you ever have food for lunch?”
My eyes widened. How the hell did she know that?
She watches us too.
Instead of showing my shock, I shrugged. “I don’t prepare any.”
“Doesn’t your mommy make some for you?”
“Magdalena,” Bessie called, but I didn’t look her way.
The smile melted from Magdalena’s face as she turned her gaze toward her. “Come play.” Magdalena held up her hand and waved.
“Thanks for letting me count your freckles.”
“You’ll have to check if I have more tomorrow.”
“You’ll have more?”
I shrugged. “You never know.”
She smiled then ran away. It was a nuclear winter to my world. She was gone. She’d run back to them. All I had were my voices screaming, wailing. I wanted to cry, to grieve the excruciating rapid death inside me. I sat there so alone, so cold.
Gone too soon.
Come back.
No, please no. Please come baaaaaaccccckkkkkkk!!!!!!!
