Eve nodded.

“If you come too.” Darius said the next words slowly and with an atrocious Scottish accent, “Am pòs thu mi?”

Hearing him say the words her father had used when he’d proposed to her mother brought tears to Eve’s eyes.

“Naí,” she said in Greek.

Darius’ face fell, and she panicked. “Wait, isn’t that yes in Greek?” She should never have tried to be clever.

“You’re saying yes?”

“Oh,yes!” Eve pulled him to his feet and threw her arms around his neck.

“I told you that young man was in love with her,” her grandfather crowed.

They turned to find the old man hugging her father, who was returning the embrace.

“I love you so much,” Eve said, “and I’m not letting you get away this time.”

“I won’t be trying to.” He kissed her.

Epilogue

“So if someone wants to go skiing in the Alps, are we going to limit where?” Eve asked, leaning back in the REKD Gaming conference room chair. “We have to be wise with the funding so we can fulfill a lot of wishes.”

“I agree, but we don’t want to be cheap either.” Kayn scrolled through the options on his tablet. “Being an Arizona guy, I don’t know much about cold places.”

“People qualifying for a bucket-list wish could have serious health issues,” Sona said. “Like my grandmother. She might have enjoyed a visit to the Alps, but there’s no way she could have gotten around much.”

Eve loved having both Kayn and his wife on the charity committee. Sona was a fun addition. Even though they were still working on the planning phase of the program, she had great ideas about security issues that Eve would never have considered. When the other partners had chipped in with suggestions, Darius had enlisted all of them to be on the board.

“Ahri already has them categorized by types,” Eve said, “but I think we need to narrow these down some more. I know Sona and I were the benefactors of two anything-goes-trips, but those turned out to be perfect test cases for whatnotto do.”

“You mean like fall in love?” Sona winked at her husband, and Kayn rewarded her with a kiss.

“There is that,” Eve said. “We also have to consider if it’s wise to send cute interns along for the trip.” Sophia had been disappointed that nothing had come from her crush on Noah.

The conference room door opened, and Ezreal backed into the room.

“I brought pizza,” he said, turning around, his arms laden with boxes. He met Eve’s gaze and flushed. Everyone assured her that eventually he’d be able to speak to her when his wife wasn’t there giving support. It hadn’t happened yet.

“And I brought cake,” Rafe said as he entered, followed by Ahri, whose hands were full of paper plates, napkins, and plastic cutlery. Darius had jumped up to help her.

“We should have just moved this all down to Ezreal’s place, because then Sara could have come,” he said.

“Nah. The kids have the flu,” Ezreal said. “Don’t worry. I washed my hands. I shouldn’t be contagious.”

“We’ll save some for you to take to her then,” Eve said as she helped to clear the table.

During the Ireland trip, Kayn had mentioned what good friends his business partners were, and Darius had made similar comments. Until they’d all been convinced to be on the board of directors, Eve hadn’t realized just how close-knit a group they were. And how welcoming.

When Joe had told her how they’d all made a trip to Virginia to force a talk with the ex, Eve had wanted to thank them. The bodyguard had nixed the idea.

“That’s what family does,” he’d said.

Watching them work and argue together, Eve agreed.

“What are you thinking?” Darius asked as he slid his arms around her from behind. “It must be dangerous because I can smell something burning.”
