I’ll teach you.

She felt cold, the sound of the Seattle rain ringing in her ears. Even knowing Landon’s fist was coming, she couldn’t move, frozen in place. When it struck her, the excruciating remembered pain radiated into her skull.

Sara’s head jerked back with remembered pain, confused to find herself in the Boone park. She staggered back and almost fell down, the panic and need to protect her children still gripping her.

Run. Run.

“Brand,” Sara cried, “come here.Now.” Where was Janna? She scanned the playground, pulling her son as she ran.

Ezreal looked at her, still flushed with anger. Landon’s sneering face superimposed itself over it. Her heart twisted. It’d finally happened. Ezreal had shown his true colors. He was no different.

“Janna,” she screamed.

Her daughter must have recognized the panic in her mother’s voice and came running. Sara was already moving, her hand extended, when Janna grabbed her free hand, and they practically ran to get out of the park.

“Sara, where are you going?” Ezreal huffed as he ran to catch up with her. “What’s going on?”

She stopped and pushed the children behind her. “Stay away from us.” She started backing up, pushing the children as she did. “I don’t want to see you again.” Turning around, the children’s hands in hers again, she dashed away.

“No, mama,” Brand wailed as he tried to pull away from her. “I want Ezreal.”

“We can’t ever see him again.”

Brand started to bawl, and Janna sobbed softly. Sara should never have let her children get involved with a man.
