“Thank you.”

“Mama, will there be other kids there?” Janna asked from the back seat.

Sara glanced at Kegan, but he only shrugged.

“I don’t know, honey. I guess we’ll see when we get there.”

When they pulled up to the building, there were many people walking in from the parking lot, some with young children.

“Security will let you in,” Kegan said, opening her door. “His other guests came in through the back entrance.”

“Are you off then?” Sara wondered how she and the children would get home.

“I’m teaching one of the classes tonight. I’ll be available to take you home after.”

“That’s a bit much to ask of you.”

“I’m on the clock, so it’s no problem for me. Ez—Ezreal,” Kegan glanced at Janna and winked, “said you all have school tomorrow and probably won’t stay late.”

“Well, he’s right. Thanks for the ride.” Sara took her children’s hands, and they entered the building.

“You must be Mrs. Fortune,” the burly man at the information desk said, rising to his feet. He tapped something on his keyboard and then said, “This way.”

Brand was intimidated enough by the people shooting them curious glances that he behaved himself. The security man paused at the door to the apartment and gave it a sharp rap. It opened immediately.

“Ezreal,” Janna and Brand cried together and threw themselves at him.

He gave them both a quick hug before reaching out to pull Sara inside with a quick, “Thanks, Stan,” and closed the door.

Her children had spotted the Diederik children and ran to greet them. Francie and Alex were unloading delicious looking desserts, and Rafe was removing a yummy smelling pizza from the oven. Ahri was setting out paper plates while Darius talked with Kayn and an unfamiliar Asian woman.

“Wow, a full house,” Sara said.

“Come and meet Sona.” Ezreal started pulling her in that direction. “You’ll have to talk to her for me.”

“No. This has to stop.” Sara made him face her and cupped his cheeks. “Look how you got around your stuttering with me. Just imagine that you’re talking to me but look at her.”

“I don’t know . . .”

“Iknow.”

Ezreal stared at her for a second before heaving out a breath. “Be ready to fill in.”

“I won’t have to.” She kissed him.

They turned back toward the group and found them watching. Then, like guilty children, everyone suddenly looked busy.

“Okay, that was embarrassing.” Ezreal rubbed his neck.

“Introduce me to this Sona.”

His hand had gone cold in hers, and he squeezed it harder than was comfortable, but Ezreal guided her over to Kayn.

“Sara,” he glanced at her, and his hand trembled a little before he looked at the woman, “this is Kayn’s fiancée, Sona Rakan. Sona, this is my g-girlfriend, Sara Fortune.”

“Good job,” she whispered to Ezreal before extending her hand. “It’s nice to meet you. Kayn, congratulations.”

“I could say the same thing to you.” The Korean man grinned and nodded toward her children playing with Lessa and Nik. “Your kids?”
