Please.
About twenty minutes later, she heard the sound of his car, and a sudden lightness filled her. She eased out from under Lessa and hurried to the door to unlock it. Ezreal wore a crease between his brows. When he saw Sara, his expression softened, the frown disappearing. She put a finger to her lips and indicated the sleeping child.
“Wouldn’t she be more comfortable in a bed?” he asked.
Sara shot him a flat look. “Of course, she would.” She explained about the lifting, and he grinned. That, alone, was enough to ease her worry about the others.
“Let me take her then.” Ezreal gently lifted the child, and Sara led him down the hallway and opened the door. He easily put Lessa in the bed and pulled a light blanket over her.
“Is Rafe okay, Uncle Ez?” she asked sleepily.
“Your brother will be fine. In fact, he’s going to be staying at your house for a few days.”

As soon asEzreal closed the bedroom door, he pulled Sara into his arms. He’d never known anyone before who’d been through a violent attack. All that had gotten him through the wait at the hospital had been the thought that he could be with her soon. She held him just as tight, and he thought she must also be troubled by what had happened.
“Let’s sit,” Sara finally said and took his hand.
Ezreal let her lead him to the couch and push him gently down. He didn’t release her hand.
“Will you sit with me?”
“Would you like something to eat?”
“I’m still full from the banquet.” He pulled Sara down beside him and put his arm around her. “I feel terrible that we didn’t make them go to the hospital first off. They’re so bruised.”
“Why is Ahri still in the hospital?”
“She had a reaction to a medication, so they’re keeping her under watch.”
“They’ll hurt for a while, but the human body is pretty resilient.”
The flat tone of her voice, so knowing, caused him to shift.
“She’ll be fine, I’m sure.” Sara stroked his cheek with her cool, calming hand. “Is she really Kayn’s brother?”
“How did you know that?”
“Lessa knew.”
“That little stinker.” His shoulders relaxed, and he put his feet on the coffee table. “I hope she didn’t tell anyone else.”
“Ahri’s husband really was murdered?”
“Yes.” He heaved out a breath. “It’ll all come out in the news now. She changed her name, and Kayn even set up a lookalike in his penthouse in New York. That’s why he’s been gone a couple of weekends a month. He’s been pretending to visit his ‘sister’ there. I wish I could have told you, but it was too dangerous.”
“Did Francie and Alex know?” Sara leaned against his chest, and Ezreal wrapped his arms more firmly around her.
“Oh, yeah,” he said with a yawn. “There’s no way either of them would have let her stay with the Diederiks otherwise.”
“It was such a wonderful day too,” she said, her words slow and slurring.
“Rafe said we’ll just increase security inside the building next year. Not that we think there will be a repeat since they caught the guys, but we don’t want any copycat pranks.”
“That’s good.”
“Hhmm.” Ezreal’s eyes were growing too heavy to keep open. With Sara in his arms, he didn’t fight it.
