The last few hours had been surreal.David had joked and talked and made sure she never had a moment to even think about her problems.

David was skilled at making conversation, and she found herself telling him things that she’d only shared with Caitlin up to now.And he actually listened—not something most men do.

And then there was his smile.Oh, my!She’d never before experienced the full impact of his smile but it was devastating, to say the least. She literally had to force herself to look away from him otherwise she might have started drooling. The man was way too handsome for her tender heart.

“Thank you…” she started to say and turned to David, but he was already out of the car and opening the trunk.

Before she could move, he was at her door, opening it.“You’re not getting rid of me that quickly.”He helped her out.

“I thought you might want to get back to Cape Town.”She noticed his laptop in his hand.

“I’m here until tomorrow.”He lifted his laptop.“Let’s see what else we can dig up about Hastings and Sam Jordan.”

“David…” she began, but he put the fingers of one hand over her lips.

“We’ve talked about this.”He took her hand as they walked toward the front door.“This whole thing has bugged me long enough.I want to find out what the real story is.”

Dana opened the front door and walked into her house, trying to decide what she was feeling.

Relaxed. That was it.She was so relaxed she didn’t have the energy to be irritated with David for wanting to help.

She inhaled sharply. It was so strange—to be able to share her worry with someone, to be able to voice her concerns about what she should do next.Caitlin had been the only person she ever opened up to, but ever since her friend had gotten married, Dana hadn’t wanted to bother Caitlin with her problems, and she’d been bottling up so many feelings.

She turned to David.“Thanks for today, especially the lunch.I needed that.”Smiling, she rolled her shoulders.“I think my shoulders are kink-free for the first time in… I don’t know how long.”She started toward the kitchen.“Would you like something to drink?”

But David grabbed her hand and put his laptop down.“Turn around so that I can make sure.”He pushed at her shoulders.

“Make sure of what?”

“Whether you are kink-free, as you put it.”He smiled, and she let him turn her so her back was against his body.

Warm hands folded over her shoulders and started kneading her muscles.

A groan inadvertently escaped when his fingers dug into her muscles.

“Mmmm,” he whispered against her ear, “not completely relaxed, it would seem.”

His words sent shivers down her spine, but she wasn’t feeling cold at all.A lethargic feeling stole over her, and she let her head fall back against David’s shoulder. He pulled her body close to his, sliding his hands up and down her arms.

The movement was gentle, meant to soothe, but her body had other ideas and moved restlessly. As if he was reading her mind, his hands moved to her sides, slowly moving up and down, up and down. His fingers grazed her breasts, and her breath hitched far back in her throat.

“What?”David whispered in her ear, but she couldn’t talk.“Is this what you want?”he asked and cupped her breasts.

Still unable to speak, she moved her hands behind her and clutched his legs. She couldn’t form a coherent word even if her life depended on it.

Sensation after sensation crashed over her; sensory impulses were sending her nerve endings into overdrive until the roaring in her ears blocked out everything else. The only thing that mattered was stilling this insane craving inside her.And the only person who could do that was David.

He spun her around, and with one movement he lifted her.Her legs found their way around his body, her arms around his neck.

“You sure about this?”he asked hoarsely.

Still unable to speak, she lifted her top over her head. His eyes darkened, and with an oath, he hitched her higher.

“Hang on—which way is your room?”His breath was labored.

She pointed behind her, her eyes never leaving his.

“You’re killing me, you know that?”He growled and swooped down for a kiss.
