This was weird.
Yes, Lila was still holding back from me.
And I couldn’t blame her.
I planned to go over to her house and bare my soul to her on Saturday.
But she never missed one of Cole’s games.
Not since she met him.
Cole was looking up at me from the field with his eyebrows raised.
Madalyn was checking and rechecking her cell.
Same as I was.
We had all called and texted her before Cole’s game.
And she hadn’t responded to any of us.
I looked over at Talia, Harlee, Everly, Cassie, and Tatum.
They too kept looking around for Lila.
I sent her another text.
Along with the many I had sent her.
Me – We’re all starting to get worried. Are you okay?
I looked down at Cole and shook my head.
I watched as his shoulders fell.
“Something has to be wrong. She would never ignore us like this,” Madalyn said at my side.
I nodded, then leaned forward and pressed a kiss on her head.
Then I looked at our group, “Has anyone called her parents?”
A few of them pulled out their phones, the girls mainly, and I watched with bated breath.
It was a few minutes before they all shook their heads.
I sighed, nothing I could do about it now... but... something wasn’t right.
And I further knew that when Cole lined up on the line, I watched as he shook his head, took his helmet off, and raced to the coach.
Madalyn and I locked eyes, and then we both stood.
The three of us were done waiting.
With the kids in my truck, neither of them commented on the fact that we were headed in the opposite direction from home.
The entire drive, the only thought running through my mind was that whoever had hurt her better hope and pray that I never lay eyes on them.
Cause once I get a visual, I’ll hunt that motherfucker down.
