“I know. Tomorrow I’m going to talk to her. And hopefully, get her to give us a shot.”
The moment the last word fell from my lips, a slow beaming smile formed on Cole’s face.
Madalyn jumped up and down while clapping.
“You mess this up, Dad...” Cole warned.
I got his meaning.
If I messed this up with her, then my kids would never forgive me.
I nodded. “I won’t. Promise.”

I woke up that morning with a sly smile on my face.
Did he really think I hadn’t seen him when I walked into Giovanni’s with Hans?
He wasn’t hard to miss.
And maybe I had smiled even more at Hans.
Because I noticed Bronson’s reaction.
The tick in his jaw.
It had taken everything I had to keep it together to not burst into laughter at the sight of him.
And it had also taken everything I had to not get up, go over to him, and ask him what was taking him so long to take his shot.
Even more so when we finished, Hans paid and walked me out of the restaurant right by Bronson.
His glaring whiskey-colored eyes were tracking us the whole way.
Just before we left the restaurant, Hans lowered his head and whispered, “That was him. Wasn’t it?”
I winked at him.
He chuckled.
The sound of glass breaking followed us out the door.

Frowning, I headed in that direction.
And when I peered out the peephole, a slow, beaming smile formed on my face.
Bronson.
