King and Gunner stood there with two other men and they were speaking quietly. Then she saw the two men leaving the group and headed for the back door.

One of the men had the name Jett on his cut and the other had the name Boone on his.

Andy watched them leave then looked over at King.“Your guys have to find them. They have to bring Gina back.”

King nodded.“They’re sure gonna try.”

Gunner nodded.“Don’t you worry.Jett is the best of the best.A tracker for the military and he has an instinct for it too. It’s in his blood, you might say.If anyone can find them, he can.”

Andy nodded then looked at Avery. They walked over to one of the sofas and sat down. Andy hung her head as tears slowly rolled down her cheeks.

Avery reached out and clasped her hand into hers.“None of this is your fault you know that, right? It’s all your mom’s doing.Your mom and your grandpa.”

Andy looked up and her heartbreak showed in her eyes.“My mom? That bitch was never a mother to me.She gave birth to me but she never loved anyone other than herself. She never really gave me a chance.”She shook her head.“I tried but I think I could see right through her when I was 5 years old and I was finally big enough to start doing chores. She never loved me and neither did grandpa.I was just as lost as Gabby was.She grew up in foster homes but I had to live with that bitch and her father.I think Gabby had it better than I ever did.”

Avery nodded.“Yeah, I think so too.Your mother was a harsh woman and you’re right about her never loving anyone but herself.Your grandpa was to blame for that and so much more. They truly deserve each other.”She looked away then looked back at Andy and added, “But I know where all her money is and let me tell you, she’s been moving your grandpa’s money out of his accounts and into hers.He doesn’t know it yet but she’s been robbing him blind for some time now.”

Gunner walked over to where they were sitting and asked, “How do you know that?”

Avery looked up and shrugged.“I do their bookwork.”

“Well damn,” Gunner replied.

Avery nodded at him as she went on to explain what she knew, “Two years ago she started moving out of the old man’s accounts. She kept enough in there so he wouldn’t suspect but that old man isn’t as dumb as she thinks he is.Those two battleaxes are going to come to blows very soon I think. Not everything between them is so great anymore.I mean yeah, they are both awful human beings. They would sneak up on an old man just to knock him out and take his wallet or pull the gold teeth from their mouths.Turn it in for cash.If they were younger they would be grave robbers.Greedy, mean, and sneaky as all fuck.Steal the wedding ring from a dead skeleton’s finger.”She shook her head in disgust.

Andy nodded in total agreement.“Exactly them. You can imagine what it was like to grow up around that.”

Avery shrugged.“But things are stressed between them, that’s for sure.”

Chapter Two

Gunner studied herfor a moment then asked, “What do you mean by that?”

Avery sighed and explained it, “Mr.Lester has been looking at the books more closely in the last few weeks. He called in his own CPA and he’s doing an audit. He’s gonna find the missing funds and he can be vicious when he wants to be.”

Andy nodded.“I can’t decide which one is worse. One’s a bloody Mary and the other is the evil grandpa.”
