Ten minutes later...

Gunner, Grizzly and King were all speaking in low voices. They were discussing the Marshal’s progress from texts on Grizzly’s phone.

After a few more minutes and looking panicked, Sarah dared to look at Grizzly.“The Marshals have to offer us protection, right? You can’t let those men find us.”

“Us?”Lester finally spoke up.“I never had anything to do with your drug work or that shooting.I’m innocent of killing anyone!”

Grizzly snorted.“Yes, yes, but you will have two counts of attempted murder. One for Gina and one for Gabby. And two counts of kidnapping as well.So why dicker? That is enough to put you away for good.”

“Yes, Gramps,” a voice chimed in.“That is enough to be where you will die.Behind bars like you deserve.”

They looked up to see Gabby standing in the hallway.

Gabby shrugged.“I see you finally look scared.”

Sarah looked away.

Lester did as well.

“Yes, I’m not surprised that you can’t face me.I cannot even address what you did to my life.We don’t have hours for me to describe it.Hell, do I hate you?Well, getting knifed in the face and neck at five years old kinda does that to a person.I did hate you both. You took my mom away from me when I was just a little kid and my father too.You refused to take me in so I went into foster homes, but as awful as they were...I must say I am EVER so happy I never had to live like your family has.So that is all I thank you for.Not taking me in.I also have put this all behind me.I am free of the rage you caused in me.And I fully intend to forget you two ever existed. You hear me?YOU.ARE.NOTHING.I will get to see my parents happy and free. While you both rot. Finally, youwillrot.”She turned and went back down the hallway.

The room almost rippled with the painful silence she left behind her.

King had actual tears in his eyes as he watched her disappear. He then looked over at Lester and Sarah.“A bullet wouldn’t be enough for what you did to my granddaughter. But then I bet it will burn our asses to know that she inherited a shit ton of money. All the while you will be broke jokes in prison.Scared for your very lives.Trembling in your cots.I hope this Pike guy doesn’t get at you for a long, long time though.Just so you will suffer.”

Boone shook his head and looked down at the pair he had helped to capture and ziptied to the chair.“Wow, you don’t know the fiends and criminals we have caught and jailed over the last five years. But you two?Man, you might just be the worst deplorables I’ve ever seen. And I am sure if Jett here...”He motioned to the silent Cherokee Indian biker sitting at the table.“...took his big ole Indian knife out to skin you with, he would peel it back and we would see two demons. Not human beings.”He shuddered.

“He’s right.”Grizzly shook his head.“And after you have roamed free doing harm to so many, you want protection from your criminal activities? We can give you a cell in jail but you’ll be in general pop.We can give you three meals a day and a place to sleep but again you’ll be in the general population community behind bars until you go to trial.”

Sarah’s face showed the sheen of her sweat now.“You can’t do that.I have a target on my back and anyone can get to me there. You have to protect me!”

“Why?”Grizzly finally asked.“If you are innocent, why all the need for protection?”

Sarah snapped her mouth shut but a drop of sweat rolled down her face. She looked around the room and finally saw the cameras. She swallowed hard. Then she looked at Grizzly and said, “If I die, my blood will be on your hands.”

Grizzly nodded.“I guess I’ll just have to live with that. But I’ll sleep just fine at night knowing I did the right thing.”He smirked at her while using her own line against her.

“How can it be the right thing?”Her voice rose.“If I’m no longer alive? How is it the right thing if my blood is on your hands?”

Grizzly looked her dead in the eyes and snarled, “Because I’ll have been the one to stop you and your dad.Your other family members will still be in jail living behind bars because they can’t even think on their own. From what King and Commando have reported...They came here under orders from you or Lester to kill people that have done nothing wrong. They came here to drag your daughter and her cousins back to a life of servitude they never had a say in.They have the right to live free, to work and enjoy a full paycheck, rather than to support a pair of lying, thieving backstabbing cheats like you.You and Lester have used and abused your positions as heads of that family for years and now that’s over.”He shook his head.“Oh and Sarah, when we bring Pike and the Double Devils in, I’m more than confident that they will work a deal so they don’t spend the rest of their lives in prison. But you and Lester? We got more than enough to throw you two in a cell and toss the key away.”He turned his head to glare at Lester.“Yeah, that means you too, so don’t be shaking your head.We got all of Gina’s medical records and a confession from the doctor who took your money for what he was supposed to do if you ever got caught.Plus, we have statements from the nurses that took care of Gina over the years.Despite what you think, that was also kidnapping. So, a life sentence comes with it.”

Lester just stared at him and swallowed hard at his words. He didn’t seem to have anything to say.

Avery pulled her phone out and scrolled through her contact list. She stopped scrolling at one name on her list. She looked up at Ryker.

He sat there looking back at her with a question in his eyes.

She then explained it to him, “I need to set the record straight at least for one man.I can’t just let him believe in a lie.”She hit the call button and put the call on speaker.

When the call was picked up on the other end, they all heard a cold voice ask, “Who the hell is this and how did you get my number?”

Sarah began to sweat even more when she heard his voice. She even shook her head and began to whimper softly.

“You don’t know me, Mr.Carter but I think it’s time we set the record right,” Avery told him.

“And what record is that, bitch?”He growled back.

“The record of the death of your brother eighteen years ago.You remember that, don’t you?You spent years behind prison walls for killing him and my brother.According to the court files, you just snapped and lost your temper. You swore you didn’t do it but you still went to prison.Do you remember that?”
