“I keep thinking I’m going to wake up,” I admit.

“You won’t,” she says. “This is your life now.”

I swallow.

“Yeah,” I say. “It is.”

When I hang up,I just sit there for a minute.

Then Saint appears in the doorway with Emmy.

“You told someone,” he says.

“Was it that obvious?”

He smiles a little. “You’re glowing.”

I stand and walk to him.

Show him my hand.

He takes it like he still can’t believe it’s allowed to be his.

“You okay?” he asks quietly.

“I’ve never been better,” I say.

And I mean it.

Wolf

Saint doesn’t call meetings unless someone is dead, dying, or about to be.

So when the group text comes in —Everyone. House. Now.— my first thought is:What broke?

My second thought is:Who broke it?

By the time I get there, Havoc’s truck is already in the driveway. Wolf’s inside which is unsettling — I’m supposed to be Wolf, and two of the Rangers are arguing about whether this is a briefing or an intervention.

Then I see Laney’s car.

And Saint’s posture through the window.

And the way he’s standing.

Not alert.

Not armored.

Just… steady.

“That’s new,” I mutter.
