And I believe it because I’ve done terrible things.
The Moon Goddess might never forgive me, but she doesn’t know I regret what happened every single day of my life, and if this is the way I’ve got to go, then I’ll accept it.
She knows my fate better than anyone.

CALEB
When I leave the hall after witnessing my pack members fighting, I head to my private kitchen, where Felix, Zara, Carson, and Aimee, my other head guard, follow.
“Taming them is going to be hard.” Zara blows out a breath. “Although Jaxon did get back to us about people from his pack coming to help them settle in, as they’ll be familiar faces.”
I glance up at her. “When?”
“This weekend, if that works?”
I’m nodding before she even finishes. “Yeah, we really need it.”
Zara flashes me a supportive smile. “Good. Jaxon gave me a list of names.”
“Let me see,” I demand.
“Uh.” She digs into her pocket and pulls out her phone. “Here. I wrote them down.”
My eyes glaze over the page as I scroll to the bottom and freeze.
Evan.
I swallow back the huge lump in my throat and narrow my gaze at the screen. My jaw tightens as I stare blankly at his name, and memories of his sweet scent come flooding into my system. I clench my fist and internally curse. It’s dangerous, distracting, and everything I don’t need. Not at a time like this.
“Everything okay?” Zara asks as she steps to my side.
I hand back her phone sharply. “Fine. Hopefully this will help.”
“I’m sure it will,” Felix says optimistically. “If not, we try something else, and we don’t give up until we have their full trust.”
“It’s not been long,” Carson says. “If you had their trust by now, I’d be impressed.”
“Agreed. They’ll come around when they see what an amazing Alpha you are,” Aimee hums.
I glance around at the four people closest to me. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be, but they keep me grounded, and I keep focused on being a better person than my father ever will be.
“We have the committee meeting soon,” Felix says as he checks his watch. “We'd better get going. Don’t want to be late.”
I grunt in response.
The other Alphas in our district want to meet, no doubt wanting to figure out what’s going on with my sudden appearance. I don’t blame them for being cautious.
When we arrive at the town hall in the middle of the district, I take my seat beside Felix as Jaxon and Kayden join us, along with the other Alphas and Betas.
After greeting each other, it’s hard to ignore the sets of eyes that rest on me.
“So, we’ve called this meeting today to welcome Caleb and his pack into the district,” Harrison, the district ambassador, states as the room stays silent. “It’ll be good to have a discussion now we’re all together.”
Jaxon glances at me and gives me a supportive nod.
Even though we’ve been friends since we were kids, I never thought he’d be this welcoming after not seeing each other for almost seven years.
