“It does!”she insists.
“Why?”
“I’m afraid to drive.I saw a lot of accidents when I was younger.I…” She trails off.
I want to reach over and comfort her, but I’m not sure how she’d react.
“I’ll help with that too,” I say calmly.
She stares at me, trying to read me.I watch her, studying her face.
“I don’t want people to know,” she whispers.
“We’ll practice in secret.”
“How?Where?”
“We can do it at night.A lot of the back roads around here will be empty, and we can find a parking lot in town to practice in.”
“What about your social life?”
I laugh.“What social life?”
“I don’t know you.”
“You will,” I promise.
She takes a deep breath, then nods.
My whole body relaxes, and I smile slightly.“Give me your number.”
She passes me her phone.I type in my information, then call myself.
“We’ll have our first lesson tomorrow night.”
She nods.“Okay.”
I can’t take it anymore.I reach out and brush a strand of hair behind her ear.She smiles sweetly at me as she unbuckles.I climb out and open her door for her, offering her my hand to help her out of the passenger seat.
“Thanks.”She digs her keys out of her purse.“Good night, Kian.”
She turns and walks toward her house.
“See you tomorrow, Larsen.”
I watch her go inside before climbing behind the wheel.
On the drive home, I start putting pieces into place.By the time I pull into my driveway, I know exactly what I’m going to do to make Larsen mine.
THREE
Larsen
I wakefrom a dream about Kian, tangled in my sheets. My phone dings with a text, and I squint at the screen, blinking to adjust to the bright light.I’m expecting it to be Blair or one of my friends, but it’s Kian.
Kian:See you tonight.
I blushas I stare at his name on the screen.
