What was the rush to admit I loved her? I’d just show her how much she meant to me tonight and everyday going forward because we had all the time in the world.
Kelly Lloyd was fixing what she didn’t break, and I would be forever grateful.

My break had finally arrived, and I went to find Dana outside. She had some old video games she wanted to give to Kevin. He was riding his bike over to pick them up and take them to the compound.
Images of me beating up Letty in the dirt with a crowd of bikers around me had consumed me at work. Sometimes I’d start to giggle. Other times I snorted, wholly proud of myself for not letting the witch win.
I had to show her not to fuck with me, but the black eye I gave her might have been taking it too far. Just a little.
Oh, well. That was why I’d been a tomboy since middle school. I liked getting dirty and I didn’t take shit from anybody.
However, I was a respected nurse and more refined now. I didn’t want to be the tomboy I used to be because I liked the pretty woman I’d become. The one who liked to wear sundresses and sandals that showed my painted purple toes. I liked makeup and curling my long hair. And yeah, I liked my tits and ass, a lot. So did Gideon.
But Tomboy Kelly wasn’t erased. She only went quiet and returned when needed like last night.
I spotted Dana at her car in the south lot. “Hey, lady. I can’t lie. I’m missing the Bay Area a lot more these days.” I put myhands in my pocket and felt the pair of bandage scissors I’d been using. Dang, totally forgot to put them away.
“I know. It’ll be like this through September.” She handed me a bag, then shaded her eyes looking around. “I don’t see that biker anymore.”
“Oh. That’s strange.” I scanned the area. Corcoran was here when Gideon dropped me off. “Maybe he went to get a drink or lunch.”
“You know who he is?” Dana asked with a curious expression.
“No.”
“I don’t believe you?” She put her hands on her hips. “Are you dating him?”
I laughed. “That child? No way.” Speaking of a child. I looked for my brother.
“I think you’re hiding something. You’ve been livelier than I’ve ever seen you. You’ve got to be getting some.”
“Maybe I am.” I turned my back toward her and wiggled my body.
“You brat! Who is he, if not the baby biker spending his youth hanging out in the boring parking lot?”
I spotted Kevin riding his bicycle, about half a block away. Raising up on my tiptoes, I waved.
“Great you’re ignoring me. Tell me who’s brightened your days.” She nudged me. “Whoa. Check out this Mercedes.”
I slowly turned around to face her. “He’s a King.”
Dana’s mouth dropped open. “You’re dating a King?”
“Mhm.” I noticed the black SUV coming our way slowly. Probably a fancy surgeon looking for a safe spot for his luxury vehicle.
“Shut. Up!” she yelled, shaking me. “You’re lying.”
“I’m not. We were friends back in high school. Pretty good friends, actually, and we reconnected.” I shrugged, smiling.
“I’m shocked. You do not look like the kind of person to date an outlaw biker.”
“Excuse me?”
We both turned toward the SUV and stepped toward the driver’s side. A very handsome man with dark hair and shades was smiling at us.
