“Kel, I don’t share. Especially not you. If you don’t want to be with me, then just say so. I won’t like the rejection, but I’ll respect your wishes.”
“I was just teasing you.” I kissed his cheek, then his lips. “My bad. I didn’t mean to ruin our quickie.”
“It’s just those kinds of jokes aren’t funny to me.” He clenched his teeth and kept a firm grip on my hair.
“I understand. It won’t happen again. Can I assume you won’t be having a club girl suck you off when you’re at your breaking point?” I raised my eyebrow like a warning. Literally, his life depended on giving me the answer I wanted to hear.
“You can’t count on it.”
Bingo. Good, boy.
“Why do you think I took care of myself in the shower?” He let go of my hair and captured my face in his hands.
“Good.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and resumed our activities, more impassioned and desperate than before.
That desperation ignited our releases to hit fast and at the same time, and it was everything.
“Fuck, I needed that tonight. It’s been a helluva day.” He held me against him, pressing his lips to my forehead and stroking my back.
“Anything I do to help?”
“You just did, baby.” He kissed me. “Do you have to work tomorrow? Can’t you call off?”
“Sorry, I can’t. We’re understaffed.” Which made the two nurses not showing up today hurt even more.
“I understand. We’re just dealing with stuff at the club.”
“Like what? You know you can trust me, right?” It wasn’t like I would tell the world any of his secrets. Never did when we were in school and I knew he was smoking and drinking when he shouldn’t have been.
“I know, but I wouldn’t want to worry you.”
“Trust me, I’ve seen and heard a lot of bad things in the emergency room. I have thick skin.”
“I know you do. You’ve always been a badass.”
“Exactly. Let me in, Gideon. If this thing between us continues. Shouldn’t we be open and honest with each other?”
“It hasn’t even been a week, Kel.” He shifted under me and I could tell he was uncomfortable.
But was he physically or emotionally uncomfortable?
“Okay.” I crawled off his lap and went to the passenger’s side to put myself back together.
This time I made him put on a condom, which I should have done the first time. Luckily, I tracked my cycle and ovulation, and I was in thesafe zone, when we had sex the other time. I wouldn’t be taking any more chances going forward.
“You’re angry. I can’t see it on your face.”
“I’m not.” I put my flip-flops on. I’d worn a jersey knit T-shirt dress with nothing else under it to make it easier for our naughty activities. It’d been an excellent choice.
“I’m just afraid you won’t want to be with me.”
“If that’s true, then why get in deeper with me? If you believe I’ll cut you lose, why let me grow more attached to you? Don’t you know that will break my heart?”
He covered his face with his hands and growled. “I know. I know. Tensions are ramping up at the clubhouse. The situation with Cass just got worse.”
“Why? She’s been staying with Slay, right?”
“Yes, but one of her employees didn’t show up for work and she hasn’t been able to get ahold of her.”
