“What? Why?”Rebecca asks, pausing at the door.

“Because, sweetie, you won’t be able to explain how you’ve been here nearly an hour and not bothered to call an ambulance,” he explains.

“You watch crime movies, don’t you?”I ask on a grin.

“They’re addictive,” he admits and dials nine-nine-nine.

“What do we say to explain why we are here?”I ask Jaxon as he bends down to help stop the bleeding.

“Linc, we were here to meet you and Mina because we were all going over to the club to have dinner,” Jaxon whispers.“Get her dad to make a reservation if it’s not digital.”

Lincoln nods, confirming he heard.

“We should call Liam,” I quietly warn Jaxon.

“He’s still recovering,” he whispers.“I don’t want him involved anymore. It’s getting too dangerous.”

“Call him, Jaxon. You, more than any of us, know what it’s like to need revenge.Liam deserves to get justice. He died so many times that night. The least we can do is give him a lead.”

“I’ll call him,” he replies, resigned.“Luke, come and help with the bleeding.”

Luke kneels on the floor as Jaxon leaves.“How did no one know she was bleeding?”

“She’s in shock, probably didn’t even know herself she was hurt,” I reply.

“She’s tiny,” he comments.

“She’s wearing jeans too.Is there a point to your comment?”I ask.

“Just saying. She’s tiny and she did something we couldn’t.”

I glance down at the tiny woman, then back at Luke, chuckling.“We are so going to get shit for this.”

He grins.“Knowing Black, he survived and we will get our chance to finish him off.”

“Isn’t killing him what Jaxon was trying to avoid?”I whisper.

“Pretty sure that went out the window the minute he hurt Liam and Rebecca. The only way we can put all of this behind us is to end him.No more of this wanting to make him suffer shit, and hoping he learns his lesson behind bars.”

“Ambulance is coming and the police are being called,” Lincoln announces.

“We need her to get her story straight,” Isaac states.

Mina’s lashes flicker open, her gaze on Luke, lips parted.“W-what?”

“Mina,” I begin, leaning in close, being careful not to scare her, “an ambulance is on the way.”

Her eyes widen as she glances around the room.“Did they find him? It’s too late.I killed him.”

Sensing she’s about to lose her shit again, Luke reaches out, gripping her face. She freezes, gazing up at him.“Mina, I’m Luke, Eli’s brother.Right now, I need you to listen to meverycarefully. Can you do that, babe?”

She nods.“Y-yes.”

“The ambulance is coming foryou. You’ve been stabbed.”

“I have?”

“You have. You’ve handled it way better than Reid did.He cried like a baby,” he announces.“But right now, we have to get our stories straight. The police can’t know you stabbed someone.”
