A prelude to more.
“Seriously, Savannah, this guy?” The douche scoffs, breaking us apart.
I was so lost in Savannah, I forgot he was here.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Savannah glares at Brad whatever-the-fuck his name is as she stays glued to me. Her body heat penetrates me to my soul.
How the fuck am I going to let her walk away after that kiss?
“Look at him.” The dude has the audacity to point at me.
I know what I look like. I might be covered in tats, but I’m also good-looking as fuck. I’m not saying that to be conceited. It’s just the truth. I smirk at Bradley as he waves his arms in the air like an angry baboon.
“He looks like a fucking criminal, and you come from one of the most respected medical families in the country. It’s practically a requirement that you marry a doctor, not some bro covered in tattoos.”
Okay, now this guy is pissing me off.
I’m about to break the fucker in half when Savannah steps in front of me, protecting me from this little pissant.
“You have no clue who this man is or what you’re talking about. If you haven’t realized, I don’t give a crap about what my family thinks. Why do you think I changed my name? And as for who I date? That is none of your business. We are so over, Bradley. Do not come back here, or so help me, I will file a restraining order against you. And I’ll tell everyone exactly how small your dick is.”
Called it. I can’t help barking a laugh.
“Fuck you,” Bradley curses, his fists balled. I don’t know if he’s talking to me or Savannah, but either way, I don’t fucking like it.
“Pfff.” Savannah waves Bradley off before cocking her hip. “No, thanks. That’s why I’m with a real man now.”
Fuck,I like the sound of that.
Wrapping my forearm around Savannah’s heaving chest, I tug her tight to my body.
“It doesn’t matter who your family is; you’re not even worth the hassle,” the dickhead jeers.
“Believe me, she’s worth it.” I kiss Savannah’s neck, ignoring the sexy little gasp she releases as she grips my arm with her fingers. I continue with my warning. “Now get the fuck out of here. And if I ever see you around my girl again, I’ll be more than happy to rearrange your pretty little face for you.”
“Whatever.” The preppy prick storms off, leaving me and Savannah on the sidewalk.
I can tell she is still reeling as I hold on to her. We watch Bradley in silence as he dips into a forest-green Ferrari and peels off down the road.
Good fucking riddance.

Savannah
AssoonasBradleyspeeds off down the street, I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
The anger I was clinging to in his presence drains from every cell in my body, leaving me cold and exhausted.
My ex took me by surprise when he stepped into my path as I walked up to my building with a takeout bag in hand. I don’t know how he found me, but it creeps me the hell out that he did.
Is Bradley having me watched, or is he watching?
An icy shiver slips down my spine.
The only person who knows I moved is Charlotte, and I made her swear she wouldn’t tell anyone. Not even our dad, because I didn’t want to hear from my mother. I’m already ignoring her texts about moving back to San Francisco. If she heard I moved into a new apartment, she would only increase her messages for me to move home and start a surgical residency.
Nico, sensing my unease, tightens his arm over my chest in a one-armed hug. Absorbing the heat and safety I feel with him at my back, I lean into his hold for a second longer than I should.
