"Thank you again. Oh my gosh," I say under my breath as I see someone headed toward me. A very sexy someone.
"What is it?"
“I think I see Hunter, the gardener." I watch as Hunter's eyes glance over at me. He has a wicked smile on his face, and I quickly turn away. My breath is coming fast now. Why am I always attracted to the worst guys? “Shit, he’s coming towards me.”
"You want to bang his bones, don't you?"
"No, I don't. I gotta go.”
"See you later, girl."
I hang up the phone and casually step away from the palm tree. I watch as he stops the lawnmower and heads over to me. Unfortunately, he has his shirt on today, but he still looks sexy as hell.
"Hey, how's it going? How's the book?"
"Great."
"Sure," he says. "Enid and Preston are not the sort of people that I think can deliver a great story all by themselves."
"Wow, that's quite rude."
"Me?" he says, showing his even, whiteteeth. "Could I ever be rude?"
"I think you could be plenty rude, and I don't know how your employers would feel hearing you talking about them like that."
"Well, let's hope they don't hear."
"Are you trying to tell me not to tell them?"
"Why would you tell them? I mean, it's not like you're busy working right now, taking a personal call while on the job."
"I actually was not taking a personal call. I have to make dinner tonight for a very important family occasion." He stares at me and raises an eyebrow.
"Oh, yeah?You'remaking dinner?"
"Well, with the help of my best friend. The Waverlys have the utmost faith in me, and they've asked me to create an amazing menu to celebrate their grandson."
"Oh?" His eyes twinkle as he stares at me. "You know their grandson."
"I mean, I wouldn't say we were best friends." I clear my throat. "But I am kind of close to the family."
"Oh, why didn't you tell me that?"
"I mean, I don't like to brag." I feel slightly guilty at my exaggeration, but it's technically true. My grandfather and Preston are friends, and I got the job because of that friendship. It is almost nepotism, even though the job isn’t that great, andPreston is weird, and Enid is weirder, and now I have to cook dinner. "Anyway," I say, "I should be heading inside because I'm sure Preston's eagerly waiting on me so that we can discuss his love story."
"You are by far—" He pauses.
"I'm by far what?" I prod him.
"You are by far the most interesting woman I've met in a long time."
"Is that a compliment?"
"If you want it to be a compliment." His lips twitch. "Cute blouse, by the way."
"This old thing?" I say, but I can feel myself blushing. I'm glad he noticed.
"So, you hear from your boyfriend?"
