“I could use a plug, but the only one I have must be too small for me now.”
“I can go to the pharmacy,” Monty offered.
Laurel’s eyes flew open. “No!” He took a deep breath. “Seriously, don’t you dare leave.”
Monty smiled. “It would have been difficult.”
“I don’t think you want to send your security to buy sex toys, huh?” I asked.
Laurel snorted. “Not really, no.”
Two men were now staying at one of the guest cottages, and I sometimes saw them through the windows, wandering around. According to Sam’s assistant, they were to keep an eye on the property while Laurel was “indisposed.” They had installed some additional cameras with motion detectors around the perimeter.
I glanced at Monty. “We could ask Hunter.”
Monty nodded. “Probably the best option since he already knows.”
“He knows I’m in heat,” Laurel said. “But I didn’t tell him who the alpha is.”
I grinned. “This should be interesting.”
Laurel had a short nap, then he curled in my lap and called Hunter while Monty made us sandwiches for lunch.
The good doctor arrived an hour later. We’d told Laurel’s security to let him pass. When a car pulled up outside, I went to open the door for him.
His eyebrows flew up as he saw me, but his expression remained serious.
“I figured it might be you when Sedric said you wouldn’t be at the pub for a while.” He handed me a sealed plastic tote. “Here. I added a cream for recovery.”
“Thanks for coming. We really appreciate it.”
Hunter waved me off, then stuffed his hands into his pockets. “How is he?”
“Good. The heat’s peaking. He’s taking the contraceptives, and it’s…um. It’s intense.”
“It’s going to be, but he’ll be okay. He hasn’t changed his mind about the pregnancy, has he?”
“No. He seems pretty clear-headed about that.”
Squinting at me, Hunter tilted his head to the side. “And you?”
I shrugged. “The heat is messing with me, of course, so the urge is there. But if Laurel needs time, he gets time. It’s for the best. There’ll be a lot to deal with once the word gets out, and I have my own shit, so…”
Hunter gave me a grim nod. “Okay, then.”
Why did I have a feeling he disapproved of me being with Laurel?
“I’d invite you in, but I’m guessing you don’t want to breathe that.” I circled a finger in the air. The strong scent of heat and sex must be spilling out of the house.
“Considerate of you. I really don’t. Congratulations, Jordy. Laurel is an amazing man.”
Hunter’s smile was forced. Was he jealous?
“Thanks.”
He blew out a breath, and then he asked, “Does Monty know?” And it hit me. Hunter was worried for Monty’s sake. He’d noticed, just like half of Beauville, how much Monty had wanted Laurel.
I couldn’t help but grin. Fate had been really generous toward me. “Monty knows.”
