“You need to move the second one a few feet to the right, otherwise the concrete is going to be too thick,” Titus said, scowling at the building’s blueprints.

The bank, according to the information Titus had found, was actually an officially registered bank with Companies House. The blueprints showed it took up half of the building, with the other half what they assumed to be the Vipers safe house.

“Kyra wasn’t aware of the meeting, was she?” Eva asked Xander, who stood stiff beside her. He had removed his sunglasses, his eyes pale even when shifted to his beast. “She’s going to kill you when she finds out.”

Xander grunted. “Don’t do something stupid, like die, and she’ll be fine.”

“We both know she won’t be.” Eva laughed, shaking her head as Kace stepped back, pushing her tighter into the corner.

“Ready to go.” He waited for her protest as he touched his new trophy gold ring on his finger.

“Hey, I don’t need…”

Loud pops and crackles echoed, followed by blinding bursts of multi-coloured light that brightened the entire street just outside the door. The noise wouldn’t be as loud as his bombs, but they were enough to distract.

Clicking his fingers Kace released a burst of arcane, the heat a catalyst that ignited the small devices in sequence. The crystals ruptured, the concentrated energy cracking the concrete perfectly.

“Titus?” he asked, waiting for confirmation.

“CCTV is looped.”

With one kick the wall connecting the two basements crashed, allowing them access into the underground garage.

The air shifted, and Lucifer appeared beside Eva, who almost jumped out of her skin. “Holy shit, those fireworks were fuckingawesome,” he chuckled, rubbing his hands together. “I knew it was a good idea to add the extra powder.”

“And the glitter?” Eva asked.

Lucifer turned his smirk to her. “Because, my little bloodsucker, the world needs more fucking sparkle.”

Kace pulled Eva closer to him, and Lucifer’s grin widened. “Let’s go, we don’t want to risk someone calling for help.”

“What’s the point of Alice playing nice with The Met if we’re still going to have issues with the police?” Axel muttered. “Breaking and entering isn’t even that big of a deal.”

“She works for Spook Squad, I don’t think they’re going to be much fucking help unless we find a dead body,” Sythe said. “Unless you would like to volunteer?”

“Fuck you.” Axel flipped him the finger.

One by one they climbed through the space in the wall, the garage lit up by strip lighting along the floor.

“Look at this beauty.” Sythe let out a low whistle as he brushed his hand down the side of a flashy yellow sports car. “Aw, K, you dented her.”

Eva smiled at Sythe’s pout, and Kace fought the snarl that rattled his chest. He didn’t want her to smile at anyone but him.

Which was fucking ridiculous.

“Er, guys,” Titus said as he swept his gaze across the room. “There’s three lifts. There’s only supposed to be one.”

“And they’re the wrong colour,” Eva added. “The lift that connects to the upper floors is gold, not silver.”

Xander grunted. “Well, where the bloody hell is the correct lift then?”

Footsteps echoed, and Kace cocked his head as he pulled one of his throwing blades from the sheath on his chest. Closing his eyes he turned, the blade releasing from his hand just as the first guard stepped through the hidden door, gun pointed. His knife hit him dead between the eyes, and he fell like a sack of shit.

Bullets pinged, and Kace threw himself towards Eva. Wrapping her in his arms he grunted, feeling one stray bullet slice into his back.

“Clear,” Riley said as Kace quickly swept his gaze across Eva, making sure nothing else had ricocheted.

“Did you get hit?” Eva pressed her hands gently to his stomach, fingers sweeping down his abs before she pushed gently for him to turn.
