“She will be a liability. She will…”

“It’s too dangerous, what happens…”

Some of the Guardians argued, and Riley silenced them with a single look. “Eva, you need to think about what you’re asking. You’ve been through a serious trauma…”

“I don’t think any of you can comment about whatI’vebeen through,” Eva interrupted, anger kissing her bloodstream. “If you try and keep me here, you’re all no better than Augustine.”

Riley stiffened. “Eva…”

“Mymatehas already said she’s coming,” Kace growled. “Lucy can drift her out if it gets too dangerous.”

Lucifer whooped, clapping his hands together with an audible slap.

A smack, followed by a grunt.

“What?” Lucifer moaned. “I’m always left at fucking home.”

Riley exhaled, eyes twirling silver. “Mate, huh?”

Kace’s scowl didn’t fade. “Mine.”

Riley’s expression remained severe, but his voice softened to a whisper. “Fate sure knows how to fuck with us. I truly hope Eva will be what keeps you with us, brother.”

Eva waited for Riley to turn before she grabbed Kace, pulling him towards the door. “I’m not some damsel in distress,” she hissed. “I didn’t need your help.”

Kace smirked, his head dipping so his lips almost brushed hers. “Keep acting bratty, Sunshine. See where it gets you.”

Eva let out a frustrated huff. “Careful, Kace. Someone might think you actually like me.”

He moved closer, and she refused to step back. Without a word he pulled at her hand, turning it so her palm was open to the air. Gold glinted on his finger, and Eva frowned when she recognised the initials carved into the tarnished surface.

L.W.

“Kace, what have you done?” Something sharp landed in her hand, and she immediately closed her fingers around it. His eyes dipped down, and she hesitantly opened her hand one finger at a time. Two fangs sat in the centre of her palm, still covered in blood and flesh.

He had given her Lucas’s fangs.

The man who had killed her.

“You should never have come to me Eva.” Kace’s free hand brushed her jaw, tipping her head back to meet his dark green eyes. “Because it’s going to be really fucking hard to let you go.”

Chapter31

Kace

Kace growled, Sythe and Axel’s attention quickly skirting away from Eva’s curvy arse.

Of course she had to wear leather, he thought, struggling to tear his eyes away either.

She moved, drawing his attention to her less than amused expression.

Fuck.Of course vampires could see in pitch black.

“Lucy ready?” he asked, going back to placing the explosives onto the concrete wall. The crystals hummed, and Kace was excited to try out his new little project.

Titus sat on the floor, a laptop balanced on his knees. “Two minutes,” he said, typing away, the glow the only light in the room. “Apparently he’s adding glitter.”

“Of course he fucking is,” Riley muttered, standing at the doorway of the estate agents they had broken into. The building Eva marked as the Viper Tower was in the human district, and cleverly disguised as an elite bank. Security was extensive, as was expected with a bank, but they didn’t plan to go through the front door.
