“Still appreciate it.”

“Of course.Alright, now let’s all get some shut-eye.”

“I call dibs on the bed,” Rob called, holding up his hand.

“I get the couch,” Greg chimed in.

“I’ll share with Rob,” Carson added.

“I guess the rest of us are on the floor,” Barry griped.“But keep me far away from the lovebirds.Don’t need to hear that.”

“I’ll get the blankets.”No sense in confirming or denying their thoughts.

Chapter 39

Andrea’s hands shook as she went up to the registration desk of the Hotel Baker. She had changed into one of the outfits she’d gotten to pretend to be Holly, though she wore her flat shoes instead of heels. She was saving that for tomorrow when actually facing one of Holly’s clients.Andrea didn’t want to risk falling flat on her face in front of the hotel.

She wasn’t worried about her reservation but knowing if the buyer was already there. She had to force herself not to look around and see if anyone was watching her.

“How can I help you?”the concierge asked. He was a middle-aged-looking man with a comb-over and a thick beard that was more grey than brown.

“I have a reservation.Holly Carroll.”Andrea wasn’t sure if Holly had ever changed her last name, but it was the one Barry had put the reservation under.

The concierge typed on his computer.“There you are.Two nights with us.”He handed her a key card.“Room 304.”

“Thanks,” she mumbled and took her card.

Once again, she had to resist looking around.Think like Holly.

She held her head up high, pretending she didn’t have a care in the world, especially the fact her boobs were practically hanging out.It was still a more modest choice than her sister would have opted for, but it was close enough.

It took two tries to get her key card in the slot and open the door. She set her bag down that one of the guys had given her and called Jack, not paying much attention to her standard room of a bed, dresser, nightstand, and bathroom.

“Did you make it into the room?”was the first thing he asked.

“Yeah, 304.”

“I’ll be up in a few minutes.”He hung up.

Andrea paced the small room until a few minutes later, there was a knock.

“Andrea, it’s me,” she heard Jack’s muffled voice from the other side.

She opened the door a few inches, and Jack slid inside, and then she shut and latched the door behind him.She turned to face him and was immediately wrapped in his arms.

“You’re doing beautifully, sweetheart,” he encouraged her, his fingers stroking through her hair.

Andrea burrowed into his chest, needing his strength. Why had she thought she could this? And she hadn’t done anything more than check in.

“Have you guys noticed anyone suspicious?”

“Not yet, but Barry is monitoring the security. He has access to their computers as well, so he can see the guest list. He’s running them through the database to see if we get a hit.”

Andrea pulled back to look at him.“You think the buyer is a guest here?”She had wondered, but if the guys suspected, did he already know she wasn’t Holly?Had they even met? There were so many things that could go wrong with this plan.

“We’re checking every lead.”

“Okay, now what?”Did they just sit and wait like a stakeout or what?
