Andrea licked her lips, looking nervous.“Are you sure we can do this?”
“Absolutely.Without a doubt. This is a walk in the park for us,” he answered quickly.
“I hate to know where you go walking if this is normal.”
“I know you’re scared. It’s natural, but by this time tomorrow, it will all be over.”
“And then what? What happens to me?”
“Whatever you want. You can stay in Florida or go anywhere. If WITSEC won’t help, I will.As you’ve seen, Barry is good on the computer.I’m sure he could create a new identity for you.”Really, he wanted to ask her to stay with him, but it seemed too soon for that conversation.Maybe after they dealt with the buyer.“But let’s focus on one thing at a time.”
“No sense worrying about things to come.”Andrea blew out a breath before announcing, “I’m just going to take a shower and go to bed.”Her eyes widened as if a thought struck her.“Where is everyone going to stay?”
“I’m with you, the guys can figure it out.”
“Jaaack,” she stressed his name.“You can’t make them sleep on the floor or cram in the bed together.”
“Sweetheart, we’re used to sleeping on cold hard ground. This is nothing new to them. Two can share my bed.One the couch and the rest the floor.”
“Do you have enough blankets for everyone?”
“They’ll be covered,” he assured her, warmed that she was so concerned about his friends’ comfort.
“Okay.”
“Get some sleep.Tomorrow is going to be a long day.”
Andrea groaned.“The next two.Okay, now I really need that shower to help me relax.”
Jack gave her a soft, quick kiss.“If it doesn’t help, I can.”
“Jack,” she whispered as if they might be overheard, which was unlikely as everyone was already downstairs, but he didn’t miss the heat in her eyes.
“Just offering.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”She gave him another kiss, and Jack watched her walk away.As much as he would like to follow her and take care of her, he had other things to take care of.Keeping her safe for one.Jack waited until she disappeared down the hall before he left and joined the guys downstairs.
Chapter 38
The guys stood around the three vehicles in the parking space, going through the five duffel bags of weapons resting on the hoods, checking the weapons over before putting them back. There was a large assortment of rifles as well as handguns and knives.Nick must have arranged a military carrier instead of them taking a commercial flight.Or they’d picked them up on the way here.Either way, it didn’t matter.
“How’s Andrea holding up?”Luke asked when he stopped in front of Jack.
“Better than expected but still scared.”
“I’d be worried if she wasn’t.She’s a civilian and not used to this life.”
“She’s taking a huge risk helping us,” Rob added, his focus on a blade he was handling.
“She is, but she seems more concerned about us.”
“We’ve faced overwhelming odds before, but for a sale in a hotel, I don’t see an army showing up.Maybe a handful of guys.If anything, I think we’re overprepared.”
“Better to be over prepared—” Luke started to say.
“Then underprepared,” they all finished simultaneously.
“Have I said that before?”Luke asked, looking around with amusement in his eyes.
