Chapter 37
“I missed you,” she whispered as she snuggled closer into his chest, as if trying to burrow under his skin.Rob loved having her pressed up against him. This was the afterglow he had missed the first time. One he was just going bask in.
“I missed you too.”
“Just this past week?”she teased.
“Try the past four.”It had been the longest four weeks of his life. The last had been the worst of it, but he had missed her through all of it.Rob didn’t know how Greg and Luke could go weeks without seeing Shay and Zoe.
June sat up and looked down at him.“I thought you said you were so focused on your mission, you didn’t think about me.”
“I had to force myself to focus on the mission so I could get back to you.I kept thinking about how I left you naked and sated.Your cries of pleasure still ringing in my ears.”
“Is that all you missed, was the sex?”June asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Not even close.I missed all of you.Like I said at the bar, I missed your smiles and your humor.I missed you telling me about your day.I missed your cute outfits.”
June relaxed and laid back down on him, resting her chin on his chest.“You didn’t notice them until the night we made love.”
“I started noticing at the cookout.”
June rolled her eyes.
“Hey, I’m a guy.We don’t notice clothes.”
“No, but you should notice when a woman’s breasts are on display or there’s a sway in her hips.”
“I should have, you’re right, but I didn’t.”
June covered her mouth to stifle a yawn.“Sorry, you were saying.”
“I didn’t want to press last week since you were still angry at me, but why are you still working so late?Is that PT still on vacation?”
“She actually ended up quitting.Met some stranger at the bar and married him after knowing him less than a week.”June scoffed.“She decided to stay out there instead of coming back.”
“So that means longer hours for you for how long?”He hated seeing how tired she always looked now.She couldn’t keep up with this grueling schedule without it affecting her health. He didn’t want all of their free time together to be her passed out instead of talking to him or other more delicious things.
“I don’t know.”She shrugged.“They’re working on hiring a new girl, but all of us are pulling double duty until they find someone.”
“I hate what it’s doing to you.You always look tired.”
June’s mouth hung open in outrage.“You’re not supposed to tell a woman she looks tired. That’s an insult.”
“Babe, there are deep bags under your eyes, you only half smile instead of with your whole heart, and you have yawned three times in the past two minutes.”
“You wore me out,” she defended.“That was three orgasms.Anyone would be exhausted after that.”
“I did wear you out, and I loved hearing you scream my name each time you came,” he agreed with a giant grin beaming about her words, “but I can’t take all the credit, unfortunately.Your work schedule is affecting you too.”
June pouted as if unhappy about that fact.“I know. All of us are feeling the strain; it’s not just me.Hopefully, it won’t last much longer.”
An idea came to mind.Really a realization.“You need a date night.”
“Oh yeah.”She quirked up one of her eyebrows.
“Yeah, I just realized I’ve never actually taken you out on a date.”They hadn’t been official, and she had cooked dinner before they made love, but in their weeks together, someone always cooked; they never went out.
Her eyes went up as she looked to be in thought.“No, you haven’t.”
