“What are you doing?”
“Touching you.”As much as he would let her.
Carson held her foot in his hand, massaging the arch.It felt good.It had been ages since she’d had a massage.
“Like that, do you?”he questioned then chuckled when she groaned.
“Do you even have to ask?”It felt amazing, but not as amazing as it would be to get to touch him.To reciprocate. To know if he enjoyed her touch as much as she enjoyed his.
He was right there in front of her.She just wanted to touch him, but she knew she would be pushing him past his comfort level. She’d be upset if someone did the same to her. That didn’t mean she had to like it.
“Where are you going?”he asked when she started to rise.
“I was going to get up and dress.”Now that the heat of passion had passed, she felt vulnerable lying in his bed completely naked while he still had a shirt on.There was also a coolness from the air conditioner giving her a chill. It felt assumptive if she got under the covers to shield herself.
“There’s no need to rush off.Stay.”His eyes opened, and he rolled his head to the side to look at her.
“I can’t stay.Ihave to work tomorrow, and I don’t have a change of clothes.I’mdefinitely not wearing that dress to work.”She giggled as the image popped into her mind of walking into their sales pitch meeting wearing that little number.Their clients would not appreciate her outfit choice.
“I’m not asking you to stay the night, just stay for a little bit.I’m not ready for you to leave yet.”Carson released her foot, rolled to his side to face her, and pulled her closer. His arm draped over her back, rubbing small circles over her tattoo. He did seem rather fond of her phoenix tattoo.
Carson placed soft pecking kisses around her face, murmuring sweet enticing words to get her to stay.
Allie didn’t want to leave yet either. She loved being cocooned in his arms.“A little bit longer.”She wouldn’t allow herself to fall asleep but simply rested there looking at what she couldn’t touch and only admire, hoping one day he’d let her in.
Chapter 16
Sandy raced into Allie’s office Monday morning as she was setting her things down.“You’re alive.”
“Of course, I am.Why would you think otherwise?”Sandy knew Carson better than she did.Did she think Carson murdered her or something?
“I sent you off into the world looking like a sex goddess ready to get the sex of your life, and you never called or texted me.”
Allie sat down at her desk, glancing up at her best friend briefly before looking back down at her stack of paperwork.
“I got home late.”Really late. She had drifted off to sleep and woken up a little past midnight.Cursing, she’d shimmied into her dress and did the proverbial walk of shame back to her house, though she didn’t feel an ounce of shame in what they’d done.
“Well, that’s good.Late means you did more than eat.”Her face turned thoughtful.“Tell me, you didn’t clean his house and pass out on his couch when you suggested a movie.”
The sad part was that that had happened before.“I did try to clean some dishes, but Carson pulled me away from the sink.”
“Woman,” Sandy groaned, staring at the ceiling as if divine intervention were coming.“When will you learn, people don’t appreciate you cleaning their house.”
“It was a few dirty dishes, and I didn’t want food to stick to the pans. It’s a pain to scrub off.”
Sandy held her hand up for Allie to stop.“Moving on.And then?”She rotated her finger clockwise prompting her to continue.“You can’t leave me hanging like that,” Sandy accused.
Allie rolled her eyes.“That’s all I’m going to share for now.”This was their place of work.Such conversations were not appropriate.Allie took a fortifying breath before looking up at Sandy and giving her best boardroom meeting look.“We are at work and have a meeting in thirty minutes you need to pitch to.That’s what I need you to focus on.”
Sandy turned, and Allie thought she was leaving, but she only shut Allie’s door before coming back to her desk, placing her hands on the wood, and staring at her.“We have the sale in the bag.I’m not worried about that.I’m your best friend; you’re supposed to tell me what happened.”
“And right now, I am your boss, and your boss says to get out of my office and go prepare for the meeting.Besides, do you really want sex details about your two friends?”
Sandy’s face lit up like the Fourth of July.“So you did get some.Ah!”Sandy clapped her hands excitedly.“Hallelujah.Well, don’t just sit there in silence.Tell me everything.Well, not about his you know.”She waved off the word.“He’s like a brother to me, and I don’t want to know about size. But how was it?Was he caring?Gentle?”
“Sandy,” Allie groaned.“Stop, please. We’re at work.”
Sandy pursed her lips like she’d tasted something sour.“Sex is supposed to make you happy not cranky.”
