Drew dragged Shay down the street as quickly as he could, practically carrying her to his car and tossing her in with no finesse. He was surprised how easily she came with him but compared to the men attempting to shove her in the back of the SUV, he was probably preferable.
Before he could get into the driver seat the driver from the SUV caught up with them. Drew barely dodged a pocket knife in his shoulder. He saw red at how close the blade had come to scratching his car too. If he did that the man was a dead man. No one fucked with his car.
Drew came at him but the guy hopped back out of reach. Drew needed to act fast before they started drawing a large crowd. A few people had already stopped to look at them. One already had their phone out recording. That would be on the internet in seconds.
He’d have to call Lucas to erase it before it went viral. Secrecy was too important for their job. He was honestly surprised no one from the police station had come out yet.
The guy came at him again slashing the blade side to side. Drew waited for the blade to pass him before he lunged, delivering a devastating punch to the attackers side, probably cracking a rib or two. The force caused the man to stumble back several steps. In a wild attempt the guy swung his blade again, this time making contact with Drew’s side.
Drew punched him again and kicked him in the chest sending him sprawling on the ground with the rest of his friends.
Drew didn’t waste another second to get into the car and peel out narrowly causing a car accident.
“Want to tell me who your friends were?”
“Those were not my friends.” She venomously denied.
“Okay, any idea who they were?” Were they connected to the club? Traffickers?
“No, they said they worked for my dad but it was a lie.” Okay, that didn’t really eliminate any suspects in his book.
“Did they say anything about what they wanted?” He strove for patience with his questions. Her ‘I don’t know’ wasn’t helping. She knew something. People didn’t try to kidnap someone more than once like that and come at them with five guards for no reason. Especially right in front of a police station. Things weren’t adding up.
Drew navigated the streets in silence as he thought.
“Where are we going?”
“Some place safe.” He didn’t know where yet though. He doubted she’d appreciate going back to his house. She didn’t appear like she trusted him, despite just saving her life.
“I want to go home.” She all but demanded like a Queen holding court.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. These men won’t stop until they have you.”
“My dad can protect me. I just have to get to him.”
Drew look at her out of the corner of her eye. “What makes you say that?”
“He—” she paused and bit her lip. Shay was obviously hiding something from him.
“Shay if you want me to help you, you have to give me some answers. I don’t know isn’t flying.”
“I didn’t ask you to intervene.” Damn she was a stubborn thing. He liked a woman with fire. Right now though, not so much. Especially when he knew she was hiding things from him.
“And if I hadn’t lord knows where’d you be by now.”
“Who’s to say I’m any safer with you?” Her chin tilted in a stubborn tilt.
“Notice I’m the one saving you from the bad guys.” He gave her duh look.
“You could be just like them, kidnapping me to take to your boss.”
Ah ha, now we’re getting somewhere. So she hadn’t been at the club willingly. She’d been a victim. The fear in her eyes last night was making more sense. Why she’d hidden in a car.
“Is that why I took you to my house and dropped you off wherever you wanted to go last night?”
She didn’t have a ready reply for that. “Just drop me off at the corner and I’ll find my own way.”
“You’ll be snatched up before I hit the next block.” She was obviously someone of high profile. Judging by the men that took her they wouldn’t give up easily. Mainly because she saw too much to be allowed to live.
