“I’m sorry, Mike for everything I said before. I don’t want to be broken up.”

Mike’s eyes lit up. “You don’t?” She heard the hopeful tone in his voice, which made her smile.

“I don’t. I want us to be together. I know I may never know what you do for a living, but if I have to choose losing you or not knowing, I’d rather not know.”

“I’m a Delta Force Operative. I’m sent on covert missions around the world. I’ll never be able to tell you where I go, when I’ll go, or how long I’ll be gone.”

“I can live with that.” So she’d been right all along.

Mike took her hands in his, looking grave. “Des, you have to promise you’ll never tell anyone about what I do.”

Destiny couldn’t hide the chuckle, which earned her a scowl. “I’m sorry, but you seem to forget I deal with secrets for a living. I know how to keep one. Besides, I don’t know anyone to tell.”

“All the women know so you can always discuss it with them, but only when it’s just you, and not in public places.”

“I can do that.” She couldn’t wait to hang out with the women. Cora hadn’t been over for very long, but it had been nice to have another woman to talk to. One to ask advice or just listen.

“How would you feel about security?”

“As in a guard or something?”

“No security cameras around your house. When I was walking around it looked like someone had tried peeking through the windows.”

The same person that tried running her over? So they knew where she lived, too. This was too much. Who would go to such lengths to kill her? She didn’t know anyone here. She went to work and came home or was in the hospital. Sure, there were exes, but they’d never try to kill her. “I’ll agree to that.”

“Perfect, Kinsley and Abigail run their own private investigation company. I can have them come out and do an assessment. I’m sure they’ll give me a discount.”

“I couldn’t have you do that. I don’t want to be treated differently. I’ll call them and set it up. No discounts and I’ll pay for it.” She wanted to set him straight from the beginning that she wouldn’t have him start paying things for her. It wasn’t pride but because she wanted to be treated as an equal. She didn’t want to be seen as the little woman that needed her man to always take care of her and pay for her things. Destiny was an independent woman, a relationship wasn’t going to change that.

Mike opened his mouth then closed it. “Are we always going to argue about silly things?”

“Yep,” she answered easily. “You might as well get used to it.”

Mike sighed dramatically, but she knew he wasn’t upset.

Destiny started to notice the breeze at her chest. Mike had torn her shirt clean in half. She needed to shower and change. Her eyes wandered perusing his body and she chuckled.

“What?”

“We were in such a rush we’re still mostly dressed. It’s just funny looking.”

“What can I say, I couldn’t resist this beautiful body especially when you ravaged me.”

“Ravaged?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.

“You did have your wicked way with me.” He smiled with a gleam in his eyes.

Destiny stood up, needing to change, when she felt liquid dripping down her leg. She looked down at Mike’s bare cock. Oh.

“What?” Mike asked, registering the look of shock on her face.

“We forgot a condom.”

Mike looked down at his groin noticing it for the first time, too. “Shit, I wasn’t thinking.”

Neither of them were. “I’m clean and on the pill so I’m not worried about babies. It was just a shocker. I’ve never forgotten before,” she rushed out to assure him.

“Me either.”
