“Not me.” At six foot, she was considered tall unless she was around Mike. But never once did she fear his height. He wasn’t some hulk going around smashing things not knowing his own strength.

“Not you,” he agreed with a chuckle as his fingers combed through her hair. Destiny leaned into his touch.

Mike pulled her into his arms, enveloping her in his warmth. She rested her cheek against his chest, soothed by the steady beat of his heart. She could stay like this forever. “I told you about my past experiences, are you going to tell me about yours?”

She didn’t want to, but she had unintentionally opened that can of worms. “There isn’t much to say. Some were only interested in me to get to my grandma’s wealth and others saw me as nothing more than a conquest, same as you.” She left out how they couldn’t wait to flee her bed as soon as they were done.

“Give me the names of the assholes that hurt you and I’ll pay them a visit.”

Destiny smiled when he used her same phrase. So sweet. Unlike her though, he could carry through on his threat. “They’re already forgotten.” She didn’t want to think about anyone but Mike.

He was staying and was not only interested in her for her wealth. She couldn’t be happier. She turned her head and buried her nose in his chest breathing in that natural, deep earthy musk of his then nipped at the nipple that was right there in front of her.

Mike’s fingers threaded through her hair before gripping the back of her skull, she didn’t want to consider the fact her could cradle her whole head in his palm. Hands that probably killed and yet touched her with such gentleness. Such strength that he kept easily contained.

Her hand snaked down and stroked his length currently jabbing her in the stomach, but Mike’s hand over hers stilled her, and with the hand at the back of her head pulled hers back so she looked up at him.

“You’re not too sore, are you?” She saw the lust in his eyes, but there was also concern. He wanted her, but didn’t want to hurt her.

“No,” she answered quickly, ready to get back in bed and make love again. And again, just like he promised.

“Des?” He gave her a pointed look before he removed his hand from hers and stroked his fingers through her sex. She couldn’t fully hide her wince. So it was a little tender, but it had been a while and he wasn’t exactly small.

“I’m fine,” she assured him, resuming her stroking of his cock. “Promise.” She was more than fine. Everything was perfect. “Besides,” she began kissing his neck and worked her way down his chest, “you made some promises.” She licked his nipple as she added her second hand to his cock. “About not being done with me.” She sucked on his nipple and pulled back with her teeth. “Something about again and again.”

She could tell she was winning the battle when he started backing her toward the bed. “I am a man of my word.”

Chapter 16

A gentle kiss on her cheek woke her from a deep sleep, making her groan. “For God’s sake, man, let me sleep. Four times wasn’t enough for you?” Not that she was complaining much, but a girl needed more than an hour or two of sleep at a time. The man was insatiable. She hadn’t been much better. After they made love, they’d dozed off, then one reached for the other at some point and went at it again.

But now she was beyond exhausted and was never a morning person anyway. A bad combination.

“As tempting as you make it sound, I’m afraid I’ll have to decline. I was kissing you goodbye,” Mike chuckled.

Destiny’s eyes jerked open. Leaving? The sky was dull and more grey, so it wasn’t fully morning yet. The sun was barely rising. She squinted at the alarm clock on her nightstand and groaned. It wasn’t even five in the morning. Ugh, way too early. She wanted to ask where he was going, but she didn’t want to be the girlfriend who always had to know where he was all the time. “So early?”

“I have morning PT and then I have some stuff I have to do on base.”

“Okay.” She had forgotten he did that every morning. PT with his friends. She wondered when she would ever meet any of them. Destiny had heard so much about them over the past few months and had yet to meet any of them. Maybe now that they were dating, she would.

“I set your coffee maker for you so whenever your ready to get up just turn it on.”

“Thank you,” she mumbled, already drifting back to sleep. The man exhausted her, he’d understand.

She felt like she had just fallen back to sleep when her alarm went off. Biting back a groan, Destiny turned it off and went about her normal morning routine. A hot shower did a lot to revive her tired and sore body. The coffee did the rest. By the time she made it to base she felt like her normal self though she noticed security looked tighter than normal. If she and Mike were going to keep going at it like jack rabbits, she’d need to set some rules, one being that she needed a few hours of sleep. It was hard cracking codes when you couldn’t keep your eyes open.

As Destiny stepped into the building, she knew something was wrong. It was normally quiet in the building as everyone focused on their work. Now it was chaos. People were running around.

“What’s going on?” she asked someone as they passed by.

“Computer breach. Someone hacked into our servers.”

Oh, shit. That wasn’t good.

Destiny hastened to her desk and logged on to make sure her data hadn’t been breached. How had someone hacked their computers? What did they get? Fort Irwin wasn’t a large base, so it shouldn’t draw hackers to their location. Most went after FBI or bigger bases. So why them? They’d hired a woman who specialized in firewall protection a few years ago that should have prevented this. Searching her files, Destiny didn’t see any corruption. Not that anyone would know what she was working on since she encrypted them herself.

She wasn’t super tech savvy like knowing how to steal identities or track down bad guys, but she knew algorithms and how to keep nosy people out of her work.
