“Tell me.” He encouraged.
“That I had a great time last night, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for me tonight. I just need to be back before ten, because I have a shift in the morning.”
“That I can do. Let’s go.” Olivia followed him, cursing herself. She couldn’t say it. She had taken the cowards way out. Heath would find out eventually. She might as well get it over with now, and yet, she couldn’t make herself do it. Soon. She would tell him soon. She just wanted a little more time with him. What harm was there in waiting a little bit longer?
Chapter 17
“I’ll see you tonight?” Heath asked, finishing up his breakfast.
“Yes,” Olivia said, taking his empty plate and putting it on her tray. They had been seeing each other every day for the past four days. Each day, she told herself she was going to tell him the truth, but he either interrupted her with delicious orgasms, or she lost her nerve. The longer she was waiting to tell him the harder it was for her. She had hoped easing him into the idea of kids, but they hadn’t once talked about them.
Ivy was starting to get curious about Heath. Asking questions about where they went on their dates and about him. Ivy had even noted how happy she had been looking lately. That was encouraging. It actually helped her build up her nerve to finally tell him.
Every day with Heath was perfect. They were more alike than just their pasts. They shared the same taste in music and food. Heath was more outgoing than she was and helped her get out more.
So far, they had only gone to one restaurant together a few towns over, but otherwise, he would take her some place quiet for just the two of them to eat. It had been amazing. She didn’t complain they always went out. It was a nice change from always working and going straight home. Olivia didn’t realize how much she really had been hiding the past few months, until she found herself out and about enjoying herself. She was curious about his house, but wasn’t ready for that step yet, despite all they had already done together.
Every time they were alone it was like a volcano erupting. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other, as if they hadn’t seen each other in months, instead of just hours.
“What time are you done tonight?”
“Five again.” Since Kathy had hired another waitress, Olivia hadn’t been getting as many double shifts. She was getting more sleep and time with Heath and Ivy, but she needed the money, so she could afford a better place to live. An apartment closer to town would be nice. Her current neighbors weren’t the friendliest, and the neighborhood wasn’t the best. Kathy had offered the trailer to her for practically nothing, so she hadn’t complained. As soon as she had some free time, she’d look around for something else. As much as she loved Kathy, she didn’t want to be a waitress the rest of her life. Government work wasn’t an option. There had to be something else she could do. Maybe, she could find something in the next town.
“I’ll come by and pick you up. I have a surprise for you.” He said, giving her a playful wink.
“I don’t like surprises.” She had never liked them. They never ended well for her. They usually ended up with her getting hurt. “What do you have planned?”
“You’ll see.” He stood up to leave and planted a chaste kiss on her cheek. “I’ll see you tonight.”
Olivia pasted on a smile, while on the inside, she was quaking. What did he have planned? They hadn’t done anything she hadn’t enjoyed yet. Unless, he found out about Ivy already. No, he would have said something if he had. Heath didn’t beat around the bush. She was worrying for no reason.
Olivia took her tray into the back to put Heath’s dishes in the dishwasher, when Kathy stepped in front of her, giving her the stink eye from hell. “What?”
“You still haven’t told him.” She was as angry as a bull and just saw red.
“I’m getting around to it.” There was no sense in denying it.
Kathy crossed her arms over her ample chest, making herself an unmovable force. “Olivia, it’s been days. You’ve had plenty of opportunities.”
She had, but the time had never seemed right, and when she was going to say it, he distracted her. Last night, she had been so close, but then, he dropped to his knees and ate her out against the side of his truck, and she lost her nerve again. It never seemed right to tell him right after they had been intimate. “I’ll tell him.” And she would.Eventually.
“When Christmas?” Kathy snapped. She was not in a good mood.
“No.”
“You tell him tonight, or I will.” Kathy warned with a pointed finger.
Olivia wasn’t used to Kathy directing her ire at her, so this was a new experience. It was like being scolded by her parents again. Kathy was her boss though and not her parent. “Kathy, this is my personal business not yours.”
“You’re making it my business, when I’m watching your daughter every night.”
She didn’t have a ready argument to that. Olivia’s shoulders dropped in defeat. She had been relying on Katy’s kindness watching Ivy, while she went off with Heath. When she was with Heath, she forgot about her troubles in her life. She forgot her responsibilities as a parent. Olivia forgot about everything. “I’ll tell him tonight. No more stalling.” She promised.
“Good,” Kathy nodded, before heading back into the diner, having the last word.
Olivia’s happy mood was gone the rest of the day. She was no longer excited to see Heath tonight, because she knew this would be the end of everything. Things were still too new between them for him to accept her having a kid.
After she told him she had a child, he would leave, and all she would be left was the memory of their brief time together. It was just as well, as she never should have started something with a man not accepting of children. Ivy was a major part of her life. She had just gotten caught up in the romance, and she allowed herself to forget. No more. She would tell him as soon as she saw him, before he said a word and distracted her.
