Fiona was giggling when they pulled into the driveway.Vincehad spent the entire car ride feeling up her leg and trying to get her to show him her bare pussy. Fiona had refused, but it didn’t stop him from trying. Her cheeks hurt from laughing so much. “Stop,” she laughed, brushing his hand away before hopping out of the truck.
“Not a chance.”Vincemet her in front of the truck, picking her up off her feet. “Oh my god,Vince, put me down,” she screeched, hitting his chest with her fists, not like it did anything to him.
“I’ll give you a kiss if you put me down,” she tried negotiating.
Vinceimmediately stopped. “What kind of kiss?”
“The regular?” What kind of question was that? Then it hit her what he was asking. “On the lips.” No more public indecency for her. “Once we’re inside, it’s a different story.”
“I like where this is headed.” His eyes lit up and he placed her back on her feet.
Fiona ran up the front steps, then froze in horror as she stared at the front door. The open front door. “Get behind me,”Vinceordered her. He had morphed into super soldier mode and manifested a long knife. Where did that come from? It was the same knife he’d held over her when he woke her up a few days ago.
Fiona followed his instructions, getting behind him as her hands shook in fear. They should be calling the police, not going inside. What if the burglar was still inside?Vincehad a knife, but what if they had a gun?
Nothing looked out of place downstairs as they did a sweep. If it wasn’t for the front door being open, she would never have known someone had been there.
“I’m going to look upstairs. Wait here.”
Fiona didn’t want to be left alone. “I’m coming with you.”
Vincelooked like he wanted to argue but nodded. “Stay close. If someone is here, I want you to run and call the police.”
“Okay,” Fiona agreed easily.
Fiona stayed behindVinceas they looked inJoaquín’sroom. Fiona gasped in shock as she saw dozens of photos of her. There were pictures of her with the women when they went to the bar. Photos of her andVincewalking to dinner and home. The photos were strewn around the room.
Fiona covered her mouth and had to turn away, only to see something else just as terrifying. On the mirror above the dresser, written in red ink, were the words:Prepare to face the consequences.
What was worse, there were photos of her andVincehaving sex in the alley. Someone had seen them and photographed them having sex. It was like that night with bar guy all over again.
It was her stalker. He had somehow found her in Texas. Fiona wrapped her arms around herself, suddenly feeling cold. Her knees buckled, dropping her to the floor, though she didn’t feel it. Who was doing this to her? She had never said an unkind word to anyone. Why was someone stalking her?
“Fiona,”Vincesaid, kneeling down next to her. His voice sounded far away, even though he was right in front of her.
“He found me.” She had deluded herself into thinking the person would just give up, but she had been wrong. How did he find her? She used the burner phoneVincegave her. Besides her one call with David, she only talked to Savannah. Just as a precaution she kept the phone turned off when she wasn’t using it.
“We’re going to figure this out. I’ll have Squeaker double her efforts to find this asshole. We’ll make sure someone is always with you. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Fiona wanted to believe him. She knewVincewould do everything to keep her safe, but obviously this person would stop at nothing to have her. What if they hurt one of her friends orVinceto get to her? She could never live with herself if something happened to one of them. “I need to leave. Go to a deserted island or something. Go somewhere no one can find me.”
“No.”Vinceshook her shoulders. “You are not going to hide from this. Running didn’t solve anything. The bastard found you anyway. We are going to figure out who this is and put a stop to him once and for all. I’ll call Squeaker in the morning and see what she found from the surveillance footage. It will give us a clue.”
“I’m scared.” Fiona looked up at him, tears streaming down her face. “I don’t want to lose you.”
“You’re not. The bastard can’t have you. He’ll have to go through me and I’m a pretty big obstacle.”
ButVincewasn’t invincible. He couldn’t be everywhere at once. What if her stalker waited untilVincewent on a mission? The women were no match for this person. She couldn’t even stay hidden from this guy.
“We’ll figure this out in the morning.”
Vinceleft her to throw out the photos and clean the mirror. She was in a fog as she got ready for bed. All sorts of scenarios going through her mind. The easiest thing to do was hide, butVincewas right. She couldn’t keep running. The guy obviously was determined to get her and wasn’t willing to give up.
Vincepulled her close in bed, resting her head against his chest. They didn’t speak, just held each other. He ran his fingers through her hair until her eyes became heavy. She was safe and loved. They would figure it all out tomorrow.
