“You need to eat,” he tried again.
“And I will whenI’mhungry.”
Fed up with trying to beat around the bush,Vincetried a frontal attack. “Alright, what’s your deal?”
By the fire now blazing in her eyes, it had been the wrong thing to say, but he preferred her this way to when she was looking lost. “Excuse me?”
“You’ve hardly said two words since we left Squeaker’s, so I’m asking what’s your problem.”
“I have a lot on my mind. I’m sorry I’m not entertaining you and talking nonstop. Ididn’trealize you’re so needy.”
“Why are you turning this on me?”
“Why are you being a dick?”
“Why are you yelling at me?”
“Why did you kiss me?” Fiona clamped her mouth shut as soon as the words came out, but he had already heard them. It was hard not to when she was yelling at him. “Just forget it,” she announced before walking away.
“Oh, no you don’t.”Vincegrabbed her arm, spinning her back against the wall and pinning her there. “You and I are going to have this out once and for all.”
“Move before I knee you in the balls.”
It wasn’t an idle threat butVincewas willing to face it. “You asked me a question that I intend to answer. You asked why I kissed you. Which time?”
“I also asked why you’re being a dick; how about you answer that instead.” Fiona swung a fist aimed at his face.Vinceeasily caught her wrist and pinned her arm next to her head. She was feisty, he’d give her that, but she was hardly a skilled fighter.
He’d have to teach her a few things. Fiona swung her other fist at his stomach. He barely caught the movement out of his peripheral vision before her fist connected with his stomach. Itdidn’thurt but it surprised him. He quickly restrained it and pinned it next to her head. He could tell by the look in her eyes she was going to try and remove his balls with her knee next, so he pressed himself tightly to her, taking away that option. He liked his balls right where they were, thank you.
“Which time I kissed you, Fiona? The first or the last?”
“I changed my mind; I don’t want to know, so let me go.”
Never, his mind screamed.
“No, we’re going to hash this out once and for all.”
“What difference does it make? You think I’m frigid.”
Ah, now they were getting somewhere. She was still upset with him about that first kiss four years ago. It seemed she would need more than just an apology to make up for it.
“Would you believe me if I said I was an idiot?”
“Undoubtedly.”
“And that I lied.”
“You’ve said that before, but I remember that night clearly. There was no lying when you said I was too young and inexperienced. That I was frigid.”
Hedidn’tknow why it was so important to him for her to know the truth, but hedidn’twant this lie to always be between them. Even if he regretted ever telling her.
Damn, how many times was she going to throw that back in his face? Hopefully this was the last. “Yes, I said those things, but Ididn’tmean all of them.”
“All of them?” Fiona arched an eyebrow.
“You are young and inexperienced for a man like me, and I wasn’t going to take advantage of you in your family’s house. As for frigid, you are far from it, but seeing that glazed look in your eyes and knowing I crossed the line that night, I said the first thing that popped in my mind to steer you away from me. I’m no good for you, Fiona.”
“Shouldn’t that be my decision to make?”
