The interior spaces contrasted dramatically. Some rooms maintained the frozen aesthetic with furniture carved from enchanted ice that never melts nor feels cold to the touch.Recently renovated areas featured plush velvet furnishings in deep blues and purples, fur rugs, and crackling fireplaces that somehow didn’t damage the ice walls. For the first time she realized the enormity of Jackson’s magic.Envy and a touch of fear raced through her.He smiled.

Additional changes to the castle were evident in the new east wing, which housed a ballroom with a domed ceiling that captured and amplified starlight. The master chambers seemed to have been expanded and softened with amenities that would appeal to a potential bride, though certain rooms remain locked, hinting at secrets Jackson kept hidden from visitors.

“Planning on doing a lot of entertaining?”she asked.

Jackson turned to her, a faint smile playing on his lips as he gestured towards the expansive space."I've made some changes to accommodate potential guests," he explained cryptically, his icy blue eyes holding a hint of mystery.

As they walked through the lavishly decorated rooms, Crystalia couldn't help but notice more subtle changes in the castle.Softened lighting, cozy nooks with plush cushions, and elegant tapestries adorning the walls created a warm and inviting atmosphere. She caught glimpses of locked doors leading to unknown spaces, sparking more curiosity about the secrets he was guarding.

Jackson led her to a grand balcony that overlooked the enchanting landscape of the North Pole.Snow-covered trees glistened under the soft glow of the aurora borealis, casting a magical aura over the scene.

“This is beautiful,” Crystalia whispered, her breath creating a small cloud in the chilly air.

“It's only a fraction of what this place truly offers,” Jackson replied, his tone carrying a hint of mystery. He gestured towards a distant ridge where the lights danced in vibrant hues, reflecting off the snow in a mesmerizing display.

Crystalia's eyes widened in wonder as she took in the breathtaking panorama. The celestial frost magic seemed to weave a spell around them, drawing her further into the enchantment of the North Pole.

As they stood side by side, the chill of the winter air nipped at their cheeks, adding a rosy hue to Crystalia's pale skin. She felt a shiver run down her spine, not just from the cold, but from the thrill of being in such a magical place with Jackson by her side.

“This is incredible,” she breathed, her voice barely above a whisper as she turned to look at him.His usually icy blue eyes seemed to soften in the ethereal light, a flicker of something unreadable passing through them.

In an instant something changed. She must have imagined the softness for Jackson's gaze suddenly burned into her, the icy blue of his eyes flashing with a dangerous intensity. His gaze felt like a physical weight pressing down on her as she tried to maintain her composure. The shiver she’d felt moments ago returned, despite the warmth surrounding her.His earlier words lingered in the air, heavy with unspoken threats and unresolved emotions. The past between them loomed like a specter, casting a shadow.

Despite her attempts at bravado, a flicker of unease stirred within her.Jackson's veiled hints at darker intentions sent a chill through her, reminding her of the depth of his hurt and the bitterness that simmered beneath his composed facade. The thought of being alone with him in his castle, surrounded by his newfound intentions and unresolved emotions, made her heart race with a mix of apprehension and curiosity.

She knew he was capable of manipulation, of twisting situations to his advantage.Despite his once gentle demeanor, the centuries had hardened him, molding him into a man she barely recognized.

Lost in her thoughts, she felt a pang of regret and longing flutter in her chest. The past with Jackson was a tumultuous mix of affection, betrayal, and unspoken desires. They had danced on the edge of something dangerous, teetering between love and resentment, passion and pain.Crystalia's heart still carried the scars of their tumultuous romance, aching with the loss and betrayal. The risk of being in his castle began to resonate through her.

“This is all very lovely, Jackson,” she said, taking a step away from him.“I’m glad you’ve shown me your renovations, and I’m sure any Elven female would consider herself blessed to live in such luxury,” she managed to squeak out.

“I’m happy you approve,” he drawled.

“Oh I do, wholeheartedly,” she assured him.“But it’s growing late and I think it’s time you took me home,” she stated, her voice gaining strength.

He smiled. It was not the simulated version he’d offered her several times in the last few months when he’d begun to drop in on her unannounced. It was not the cold, barely acceptable curling of his lips. This time it was the genuine smile of a male completely and utterly amused.

“What’s so funny?”she demanded, planting her hands on her hip.

“You are,” he replied breaking into a laugh.“You are still so incredible naïve even after all these years.I must tell you that I’m delightfully surprised,” he continued with a chuckle.

“I have no idea what you are talking about,” she insisted angrily.“Of course I’ve changed. How could I not after all that’s happened, and what does it matter to you in any case?”

“Oh it matters,” he replied cheerfully.“It matters a great deal.”

“You’re talking in riddles,” she accused, shaking her head.“You wanted me to come here to see what you’ve accomplished and I did.I was hoping we could sort of ‘bury the hatchet’ as the humans say, and be if not friends, then at least cordial to one another.

“As I pointed out earlier, we are both social outcasts and I’ll admit there are times when I’m quite lonely.I drink a little too much, sleep a little too long, but I’m hopeful I will be a better grandmother than I was a mother. For the first time in a long while I’ve been feeling I have a chance to change my life, be more loving to others and break out of the cold shell I’ve surrounded myself with.”

“And so you shall, my little Crystalia, my Chrissy. And I intend to help you, ” he said firmly .“ Thankfully, what you’ve shown me today will make it that much easier. You long for forgiveness.I can see that, and have for months. However, I believed, wrongly in fact, that you were so very hard and bitter it would take a good amount of effort. Now that I understand you better I can see that you are still the same spoiled young woman you were. You’re willful and impulsive, believing you can control every aspect of your life.

“You think with a little bit of ‘sorry, you will be forgiven all.You think you’re beauty and charm will get you out of everything, repair all previous wounds and indiscretions with a smile and warm embrace. That you can simply set aside your bitterness and bring forth a new and amazing female that all will accept as truth.Sadly, I am not one of those easily fooled. In my case you will have to do much more than put on a show,” he promised.

“It has always worked before,” she snapped out before she could consider the wisdom of her words.

“I’m sure it has,” he agreed.“It will not work with me.”

“Then take me home and we’ll forget this day ever happened. We won’t be friends, or even casual acquaintances.I have no desire to suffer for mistakes I made in the past, or to dig it up and try to make it whole, and I owe you nothing, Jackson Frost!”
