Yo, Dexter! Absolutely, man, what do you need?
Me:
After the holidays and into the new year, I need you to tell my parents that you offered me the entry-level position in one of the smaller IT departments.
George:
Huh? Why?
Me:
They want me to work there, and you already know that is a no for me. However, I need them to believe that I am there.
George:
Why don’t you tell them what you really want to do with your career?
Me:
I told you before. I can’t tell them the truth, especially not after everything they’ve done for me.
George:
I guess, bro. For you to be so nerdy, you sound kind of stupid, though.
Me:
Look, normally I wouldn’t be asking for such a huge favor. To be honest, I planned on never speaking to you after the foul mess that happened at the restaurant, but this is important. So keep all of your opinions to yourself, please.
George:
Dex, man, I apologize for that. I thought I was doing you a solid.
I stared at my phone and rolled my eyes.
Me:
You knew damn well those two women were only fucking with you. I don’t need nor did I ask for pity pussy. I am more than capable of attracting women, but my mind isn’t always on sex like yours.
George:
You’re right. My bad, bro. Look, I’ll help you.
Me:
Thanks.
George:
I hope we can get back on good terms.
Me:
We’ll see.
I dropped my phone onto my bed before running my hand down my face. I still felt annoyed at George and his antics from before, but I needed him to do this for me. His apology seemed genuine, but then again, it was through a text. Eventually, when I saw him face-to-face, I’d know whether he was sincere or merely wanted to be on good terms with me because of who his bosses were.
I stood up and stretched before looking around my room. Since I was graduating in a few days, Ricky and I would have to leave our shared apartment for the next students. I was going to move back into my parents’ house for a while, and Ricky was staying at his. It’s funny that we only lived an hour apart and had never crossed paths before.
