“You’re not just anyone.”

“Please.I’m not stupid.”

“You’re not.You asked me one question, and I answered.I never said I was going to act on it with you.”

“You’re confusing me.”

“Listen, I don’t know what I’m doing, okay?I have no idea.”

“This is not encouraging.”

“But I know I wanted to be here with you tonight.Isn’t that enough?”

He studies me for a long moment before speaking.

“I don’t know.I guess I’ll find out by the end of the night.”

His words land like a dare, and I have no intention of backing down.

When we leave the restaurant, Jamie walks me to my car.

“So you can be a gentleman,” I tease.

“Sometimes I have to make a good impression, you know.”

“Are you trying to impress me?”

He shrugs.“Maybe.”

“I’m flattered.”

“And is it working?”

I shake my head, smiling.“You don’t need to do much to impress anyone, and you know it.”

“What do you mean?”he asks.

“Just beingyouis enough.”

“So, I’m just a pretty face to you?”

“All of this,” my gaze drags down his body, “is lethal.Anyone could see it from a mile away, half-blind behind fogged-up glasses.”

He laughs, teeth sinking into his bottom lip.

Ah, for Jesus’ sake.

“Your eyes alone could start a fire.And that mouth…”

“What?”he whispers, stepping in.His palm hits the car beside my head, caging me in.

“Your mouth is…”
