Chapter82
Jamie
“Ididn’t know you could cook.”
“Don’t get used to it.I’m not great at it.I had to call Ian for help.”
“It’s nice that you did that for me.”
I shrug, uncomfortable.
“Next time I’ll cook for you.”
Next time.
The Doctor wants a next time.He wants many, I can see it in his eyes, but I want even more.
“Am I going too fast?”
The Doctor tries to read my mind, but this time he gets it wrong.
“Not at all.”
“Tell me if something feels like too much.”
I reach across the table and take his hand.“That’s perfectly fine.”
He nods and continues eating.
“Are you free tomorrow night?”
“I have two days now. Why?What’s on your mind?”
“Riley invited me to dinner.”
The Doctor looks at me expectantly.
“We could go together.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“No more secrets?”
“Never again. And I have something for you,” I say, suddenly nervous.I reach into my pocket and place something on the table, a sign that Martin is a permanent part of my life.
“A pass?”
I nod.
“For the whole season.”
“This is a special pass. You get a seat in the VIP area, access to the locker room, and the blue room.It even works for national team matches. No one else has one like this,” I say, feeling both embarrassed and excited.“I had it made just for you.”
Martin turns it over in his hands without saying a word.It might not look like much, but it’s the best I can do.
“The national team,” he whispers. He lifts his gaze to me.“You’re going to play on the national team?”
