“Where there’s a will, there’s a way. But yes, you should work on fixing that one.” Angelica kissed her again. And then again. Then she slowed the embrace, tracing her tongue along Hope’s lips until she parted them to accept Angelica.

Despite how weary she was, her body reacted instantly. She pulled Angelica closer, deepening the kiss as Angelica traced fingers and hands down her body, across her skin, gentle teasing there and there that never said one way or the other if this was going to continue. Hope knew that Angelica was waiting for a sign from her on that one.

She finally broke the kiss and tugged at Angelica’s shirt to take it off. Lazy, exhausted sex sounded perfect right now. “Get undressed already.”

“Of course,” Angelica answered, pulling away after one more kiss.

She stood up and stripped down before sliding onto the bed and straddling Hope’s hips. She kissed Hope again before moving down to kiss her neck and tease her tongue along Hope’s skin.

“What… you said Eva was messaging you?”

“Mm-hmm…” Angelica hummed as she reached Hope’s nipple.

“What was she messaging?” Hope brushed Angelica’s hair out of her face as Angelica moved her way downward even more, but she didn’t say anything. “Angel…”

“She’s planning our proposal—well, my proposal to you, apparently.”

“What?” Hope pushed up on her elbows, staring down into Angelica’s baby blue eyes. “What are you talking about?”

Angelica’s lips pulled up to the side. “She was sending me screen grabs of rings and popular proposal locations and telling me all of your favorite foods and drinks.”

“God, I hope she told you that I love ramen after a long shift at work.” Hope put her head back onto the bed as she parted her legs for Angelica to move even lower.

“She did say that, yes.”

“I hope you weren’t…”Offended? That didn’t seem like the right word. Hope closed her eyes and tried to focus, but Angelica’s mouth against her inner thigh was so damn distracting.Frustrated? Put out?God, none of those words sounded right.

“I wasn’t,” Angelica murmured as she nuzzled her nose against Hope’s curls. “Just relax, Hope. Not everything is a problem, you know.”

Hope was about to retort, but Angelica’s tongue touched her clit. She arched upward slightly, and all intelligible thoughts were gone. There was nothing other than Angelica between her legs, making her feel all kinds of good. Because right now, nothing else mattered.

And yeah, Angelica was right, not everything is a problem.

Chapter

Forty-Four

“Thanks for meeting with me.”Florence stood in the doorway to Angelica’s office, as if she wasn’t sure she wanted to walk in or stay out.

“Of course,” Angelica said from her desk. But she didn’t move to get up either. Florence had vaguely requested this meeting, and Angelica agreed, but she still wasn’t entirely sure why it was happening. She’d mentioned discussing production, filming, processes, but nothing was specific. Angelica waved to the chair in front of her desk. “What can I do for you?”

“I was hoping we could talk, just you and me.” Florence took a step forward.

The conference room door slammed open hard, jarring Angelica in her seat. She shifted her gaze away from Florence and straight to Josef, barreling toward her. One heavy foot in front of another as he heaved breaths.

“You’re such a cunt!” His voice cracked through the room.

Angelica jerked with a start, her heart racing as fear settled deep into her bones. She tapped her phone and slid the camera on as quickly as possible and tapped the record button before she stood up, refusing to take this sitting down. She kept thedesk between her and him just in case he decided to try anything stupid.

“You think you can ruin my career and then walk around like you own everything that I built?” Josef’s face was scruffy, like he hadn’t shaved in weeks. He’d put on weight that Angelica had never seen on him before, and while he wore a button-up shirt, it was stained and pulled out of his pants on one side.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Angelica said, keeping her voice as steady as she could. The last thing she needed was to escalate this further.

Florence looked between Angelica and the hallway and then slipped out immediately.

Angelica’s heart sank. She forced her gaze back to Josef and stared at him—keeping him in her sights was more important than anything right now.

“I can’t get a job because of you. Simone left me—” his voice broke on that. “Don’t you have any idea what you’ve done to me?”
