She raised her brow in question.
“Do I still give you those butterflies when you see me from across the room?”
Grace’s lips twitched into a smile, but she didn’t answer.
“Do you crave my touch?”
No answer, just a twinkle in her eyes.
He repeated her wish list from the first day she’d walked into his office. “I’m tall with dark hair and successful. Not to mention secure enough within myself to date an attractive, successful woman. I’m good in bed, passionate, romantic. I have a muscular body, and I’m smart. I think I qualify for your wish list.”
“You left out adventurous and open-minded with my career choice.”
“I think we both know that I believe in you, and I’m open to adventure.”
“Your point?” she asked, as if unsure where he was headed with his questioning.
“You saved my life. You saved my brother from a loveless marriage, and his life too. You’re beautiful and stunning and amazing, and I can’t help you find a date. Not when I want to keep you for myself.”
She smiled up at him and patted his chest. “I already told you I’d date you.”
He shook his head. “It’s more complicated than that.”
“I don’t understand,” she said, dropping her hand from his chest.
He picked it back up and held it over his heart. “Do you trust me?”
“Of course.” She smiled.
“Good. We have some things to iron out. Come with me.”
Chapter Sixteen
Sam kepthis palm on the small of her back and led Grace into the attorney’s office building.
“What are we doing here?” she whispered as they stepped into the elevator.
“Removing any doubt so you know that whatever I say is genuine,” he answered.
“I don’t understand. If you’re here for a prenup, I think you’re putting the cart way before the horse. Normally, people date before popping the question.” She stepped out of the elevator onto the attorney’s floor. Sam led her down the hall, and theywere shown into a conference room. Sam gestured for her to sit, and she did, but he continued to stand.
“Grace. I knew the moment you walked into my office that it was going to take a special guy to make you happy, and I hope like hell that I’m the one you choose because I’ll spend a lifetime trying to do just that.”
“Sam. What are you talking about? I agreed we should date. Why are we here?”
Sam slid a packet in front of her and gestured for her to read. “No matter what happens, or where you and I go from here, I will always, always be there for you and our child.”
“Sam, I’m not—”
“Betty thinks you are.”
Grace rose from her chair and slowly backed away. “Is that why you came to find me? You think I’m carrying your baby?”
“I was coming to find you before Betty blindsided me with the fact that you might be pregnant.” He gestured to the paperwork. “Those papers seal all of my involvement and promise to always be there for our child, no matter what. I don’t want you to think that the baby was and is the only reason I want to be with you, because it’s not. I’ll love that baby, no matter what, and I’ll love her mom too, regardless of whether she’s just my girlfriend or agrees to be my wife.”
“You’ve only known me a few weeks, Sam. You’re talking crazy. Did you let Aunt Betty rub some of her crazy off and onto you? We haven’t even had a real date.”
Sam picked a pen off the table and signed the papers at the bottom. “Our unborn daughter gets everything unless we marry, and then it transfers to you. It’s done.”
